AH locking up for about a month now
« on: July 31, 2006, 10:12:29 PM »
I've got a big problem with AH just for the past month or so...

It will lock up, total graphics freeze, sound loop, but just AH will lock up. Not windows. Only....

I can't SEE windows! Just the last damn thing on my screen in AH!!!

I know windows works because I can use windows shortcuts. I can CTRL ALT DEL but I can't get it to shut down AH. I can shut down with windows start, U, and tab, space. I can sleep, and when I come back from sleep (faster than shutting down) AH will be minimized, but I can't bring it back up or even close it (I have to go into the processes tab every time and force it dead from there).

This has been happening regularly but not-too-frequently for under a month now.

Sometimes it locks up in the middle of VOX transmission but I can't tell if it's related or coincidental.

This never happened before. I can only assume this has started since the last patch. I've literally done nothing at all to change my system.

I've reinstalled video drivers to make sure it wasn't that. I've reinstalled sound drivers to make sure it wasn't that. What's going on here?

It just happened to me again. Only happens in the MA. I flew 3 hours in SEA. I flew months in HTH. Nothing wrong until I get into MA.

Happened again last night. Did it when I was using  vox. I've been trying to use vox in short bursts to prevent this.

I mentioned my problem in-flight and BGgetmo, or one of the BGs said he got the same thing. This is really starting to get me P.O.ed

If you haven't already, try checking or un-checking "use wave in" in your voice options. I know checking it helped with mini freezes for me.

I think it was off. I tried putting it on (don't know if I left it on or not). It'll have to wait til tomorrow before I can check. I'll let you know.

Krusty... is this still happening?

If so, check your temperatures and voltages.

Yes but not as often. This might just be that I'm more afraid to use vox now. It ALMOST happened last night... It froze up when somebody ELSE was on vox, but when I hit the windows key I was able to see the desktop, so I went back in to AH and it unfroze itself. Very strange.

My temps are never an issue. I have a fairly cool setup even under load, and it's a weaker CPU so it won't run as much heat as a 3.x GHz processor.

My voltage is another issue. I don't think that's a problem, though.

Sound card related maybe?

Sound Hardware accell. "Use wave in" setting. Mic. Drivers. Firewall/vox ports. Custom sounds (files blowing out of proportion in size and too much to handle for your system). .....

I used to have similar screen freezes (long enough to result in discoes) and sound crashing issues a while back. Turned out to be a sound card driver thing (not thta i ever managed to convince Windows to let the Microsoft drivers go and install the Omega drivers instead... but thats another - moot now - story).

If i were you, id try a redownload of the game and entirely VIRGIN settings/installation (different folder). NO custom stuff or backups at all. See if the same crashings *still* happen. If yes, its your system - if no, then its somewhere in your settings/game install.

The other possibility is that the sound card is getting ready to puke and die.
Very similar symptons that you have happened to me, recently. The final symptom was that Windows could not find the SoundBlaster card, even though it was producing sound.
Just a penny for that thought.
