Just installed new mobo and processor in kids comp, and i cant get my internet connection back. I have cable internet, connects from modem to router to comps.
Other comp works fine, tried switching ports, but no go. thought onboard ethernet port bad, bought network card, still no go. It recognizes when cable is plugged and unplugged, but doesnt see internet.
I have uninstalled and reinstealled drivers, checked every setting i can think of.
HELPPPPP!!!:)

You probalby limited the number of PC's that can connect to your router by Mac address... Teh old mac address remains in the router. go into the router and delete the computers that are there.

Just a thought.

reset the routor ... or open its config (type in its ip ) and do a dhcp release and renew .
now you should be able to go thru the intardnet connect wizard in windows.

And if you do use the wizard dont get suckered into that Windows Internet Gateway.

Hit OTHER, then select router, and windows wont try to fug up your internet connection too.

BMnot, you do have it as a dynamic and not static ip selected right?

Can you ping the router on the computer not working?

Are you using a blue ethernet cable to the router?

Does your router have any firewall settings activated denying your computer from accessing the internet.

Use the internet wizard. Open internet explorer, go to tools and then internet options. Then go to Connections tab and then click wizard. Answer the questions.

You can also reset the router by simply unpluging it. waiting a minute then plugging it back in

dynamic- yes

ping-no

blue cable- yes

router firewall-no

can not connect to router with that comp. connect fine with this comp.

it does now see that comp as connected to router, but i can not ping or access router or internet with that comp.

switch cables between good computer and bad one. Sometimes (rarely) cat5 can be bad.

Have u looked at the DHCP tables in the router software and deleted all computers there?

If the cables are good then plug your pc DIRECTLY into the cable modem bypassing the router.

If you get a internet connect there, you know its an issue with the router not conneting to you computer and not a hardware related issue.

modem to wan port .... then each pc hooked up to a port 1 , 2 , 3 or 4

you not using the uplink port correct ??

go to command prompt (Win 95/98/Me win 2000/xp ) and type ipconfig

it should list your ip address... what does it say?

Have you disabled the onboard network in your bios?

thanks for all the help guys. found the culprit, i had a stick of memory layin around, decided to stick it in this machine. apparently it was bad, it was the only addition i made. removed it and everything works now.
that will be the last time i buy Ultra memory, 2 sticks in a row bad. thanks again for all the help.
