UK Only - Another ISP that might be worth trying
« on: February 23, 2001, 04:19:00 PM »
Hi all,
I've found (Yet Another) ISP offering unmetered internet access. Connection to AH seems good. pings are about two thirds of what I was getting with BT. Plenty of packages to choose from plus UNLIMITED WEBSPACE. Check them out if the current 10mb offered by most is cramping your style.

Hi snafu,

I'm with Telewest's Blueyonder service (cable provider). 10 quid a month, no call charges. Service is usually pretty good.

They do a cable modem service for 33 quid a month.

Thanks for the info though.   Will check out if I ever need

How I envy you people with cable etc, We don't even have gas or mains sewage where I live, Honest - Coal fires & a septic tank out in the field. Where do I live? Outer Hebrides? Miles from anyway? NO, 20 miles north of Birmingham. Half a mile from the M42 motorway. You figure it out

I mentioned this ISP before but NTL (http://www.ntl.com) run an 0800 service on their NTLWorld (http://www.ntlworld.com)ISP. You don't need to be on an NTL line to use the ISP just ring them or buy a kit from PC World and you get an adapter to plug into your BT phone line that routes calls through NTL's exchanges and you need to spend £10 on calls per month to have free 0800 internet access (my missus could do that in a day if I did'nt keep her chained to the kitchen sink     ).

If you do live in an NTL cabled area you might be interested in NTL's 'Triple Digital' deal where you get a phone line, basic digital TV package and a 64k cable modem connection for £14.99 per month. Now before you turn your noses up at a measly 64k I did a trial for NTL on 64k and although its not technically much faster than a 56k dialup the pings are in a different league and actually no worse than the pings I get now on their £20 512k cable connection. For Warbirds I ping just below 100ms to Ien's servers and for Aces High I get a ping of 125ms to www.hitechcreations.com  on the 64k connection I was getting pings of between 15-35ms on UK FPS game server's.

The NTL 0800 dial-up option is still well worth connecting to as it gave me very good connections to HTC and IEN with low pack loss and a respectable ping for a dial-up connection.
