They been operational for years now,

there is meant to be one condition on placing a speed camera in that they are only meant to go at perseaved accident blackspots or sites of previous accidents.

they are not just allowed to wack them in anywhere.

to really confuse things on the M25 (a big circular motorway that rings london) there are "Variable speed limits" in that if its getting congested up ahead the speed limit is lowered behind to help stop more cars arriving so quickly and help to ease the congestion.

and you guessed it.. Speed cameras in every gantry overhead also linked to the variable speed limit!!

the worse cameras though are the portable units they erect on motorway roadworks, pretty tricky to spot sometimes one, sometimes 2.

Do they slow the traffic? well if you take the road i use to get to cornwall for a surf, I know the position of every camera so you just end up driving as fast as possible then braking for the camera then accelerating off again.

Plus I wonder how many people crash whilst emergency braking when confronted with a suprise camera popping up in front of them?

18mph over and only $110 ???!! what gives with that ??? In NC (back in 80's) it used to be  anything over 15mph over was automatic dangerous driving. I got caught twice but both JUST safe.

In UK it's those Averaging cameras that REALLY piss me off. Takes a digital of your number plate and stores it, takes another one of you X miles later and does the maths.  Now on the M25, M42, A-whatever it is to Manchester .....  So they have your number and what time you were there - what happens to all this new information about where you drive ?? Big Brother is watching you.

There was a kid who was doing 75 in a 45. He got 2 points on his license, traffic school, and paid over $200.

Storch,

Somehow you kissing Skuzzy's arse to get back on here and promising to act like a normal human being seems as no surprise to me.  What is the surprise is that you have not imploded into another round of mindless babbling and incoherent ramblings about how great you are and how Amway is the savior of the world....  time will tell though.

My bet is you're gone within 90 days.  You just can not keep that mouth of yours shut.

A couple of Months ago I passed an Oklahoma State Highway Patrol car going to work in the morning.... well over 95 in a 65 MPH zone... he lite me up, pulled me over.

I got to sit in his car and explaining to him about the only few free parking spots in downtown Tulsa.... Well he seen my Army Military Retiree Card as I handed him my Drivers Lic. He's written up the ticket and I politely ask if he could give a Vet a break and he looked at me and said... "This is why I'm just writting it up for just 15 MPH over and smiled.  $120.00 but it would have been a Hell of alot more and a Court date... plus he checked the no need to forward to Insurance Co if paid by above date...

Kewl... Ticket was in mail with check that afternoon.

Mac.

(puts on Olde Fartz hat) ... Have you ever thought about how much safer it would be and how much more pleasant driving in general would be if we all obeyed speed limits and caution signs?

They aren't put there for meanness.

They're put there for the safety and good of the public, which is all of us.

Most the bad situations and accidents I see and read about are caused by people disobeying traffic regulations.  DUH!  Do you think there's a connection?

OK, it 'aint exactly 'country roads', but if you go to Phoenix AZ you can find out exactly what the locals think of speed cameras.
