Serious question on hand recounts of ballots
« on: November 14, 2000, 04:23:00 PM »
How do we reconcile the constant calls to "hear the will of the people" (as a justification for hand recounts) if we don't include all the votes, not just the cherry picking counties?

Seriously, I challenge anyone to look me in the face and say that the point of the hand recounts in selected counties is to get a fair election.

Now the media is pounding over and over the unfairness of not counting the hand recount after the deadline. Perhaps the deadline should hold, perhaps not. One thing is for sure, the media is very heavily leaning on the liberal side, even (on the shows I watch) chuckling how the Republicans have been legally outmaneuvered (Chris Matthews, Hardball, CNBC).

This weekend Gore will warm his feet by the fire of the Constitution burning at his feet. He must have a barber shave his beard, as he can't be able to look himself in the mirror.

Never in all my life have I seen such a play on politics.

From my point of view, both parties are justified in their own pursuits.  Both are right and both are wrong and the outcome will be both wonderful and terrible for anyone and everyone.  I think we have acheived a remarkable nexus here.

As I listen and watch everything that happens I can only marvel at the potentiol outcome and the resulting cacaphony that will engulf the victor, whoever he may be.

God bless America.

Thats the reason this country grew to what it is today. However it is my Opinion that It is God who this country now refuses to recognise and is the major factor in all moral and ethical deficiencies we see here today. Our President has no shame, and the people elected him twice. Now that scares me. I always thought I was "normal" and the "majority". I am now considered a right wing extremeist. A Religous Nut for my Love of Jesus Christ. Well, I hope that we shall see some change back to the "old" ways of this country.

Every recount I've heard the results for has given more votes to Gore. Seems that if they recount them enough times, Gore should win by a landslide.

The way the re-re-re-counts are being done now it won't surprise me to see Bore win by a couple of thousand votes.

I mean they count Bush's ballot then put them in a box then they count Bore's ballots then throw them on the floor and say oops we forgot these and count em again.

all the Demos keep yelling about Harris being biased but they never say anything about the biased canvassing committee members.

The committee in Palm Beach all but said they are going to keep re-counting till Bore wins. Real fair.

He is burning the constitution?

I am not that familiar with it, could someone please post some information where it shows that handcounts are not to be allowed?

Gore has offered to have the whole state of Florida recounted, if Bush so desires. Due to these claims of cherry pickin' counties etc., why isn't Bush biting?

... and don't try to lay some garbage on me like Bush is being more statesman-like. Both sides would do *whatever* it takes to win (as is obvious).

So... why aint he biting? Does he know something that y'all don't?

It's purely a PR move.  Gore knows alot of people are getting fed up with antics, so he's trying to look like he has the interests of the nation at heart.

Remember, Gore's campain has filed/funded/supported 10-12 lawsuits, while Bush's campain has only filed one.  And though Bush could've sought to play Gore's game in Iowa with all the recounts, he said he wouldna do it.  Gore was hurting in the PR department.

Nash the reason Bush does not want to do a state wide re-count is that he thinks that ANY manual re-count is wrong not just in Demo counties but in ANY county.

And I have to agree with him. I have been watching the re-re-re-counting and you can see some of these people bending  and rubbing the ballots so much that some of the "chads" have been falling out.
