The sad thing, SEgunner, is that it all boils down to sportsmanship in the end. Alot of the older crowd like to think that we would be as noble as the WWI aces of old.
However, NONE of the people playing this game are of that generation.
Many come from the generation of athletes talking trash or making boasts on national T.V. Of Highly televised "Proffesional" Wrestling, where the match is two parts-the interview before they step in the ring, and the actual bout.
I myself, would like to think that the aformentioned would not have an impact on the kind of people that play AH...but It's where many get their examples of what sportmanship is. After all, AH is about competition. You up whatever plane, with the intention of shooting down the guy in the red icon. There can only be one of two outcomes to the fight. Either you hit the ground, or he does.
To this end, HTC has (intentionally or no) designed the game around this competition. This is why we have kill messages...system messages for the #'s of kills we land...That is why there is also a strat game, with a message that says "The Bishops/Rooks/Knights have won the war". The awarding of perk points, which are the spoils of the victor.
Now, If you were/currently are involved in competitive sports(I played Full-contact football in a junior league when I was in Gr. 6-8, Then played for my Highschool team from Freshman to Senior), chances are that you have had enough discipline and talks from your coach, to understand what good sportsmanship means. However, I know that not everyone in the game has had this...And it reflects on ch. 200. I just hope that the AH training corps is able to adress this issue a little, But I know that It's hard to screen a Trash talker out in the TA when all they are doing is asking questions about "How do I take off?"
In my opinion, We'll probably be seeing more bad sportsmanship. Why? Society in RL encourages it less and less...It's even gotten bad in institutions such as NASCAR, the NFL, the NBA...The final score for the game gets put in a stat column, But the after-game fistfight makes the front page. We can do what we can on ch.200, But I've seen the guy stepping in to stop a text fight, usually getting embroiled in it themselves. And, no matter how many times you mute them, they will always pop up again.
