Have you ever--even once--posted on this BBS without plugging your view of how the game should be played?  And what, exactly, does this have to do with the focus of the thread, which appears to be about politeness and stopping the insults?

Shubie, what does your post have to do with the focus of this thread?

Even less than poop's!

And no, we never post without plugging our idea of fun. It's a squad rule.

That being said, furballing is the only worthwhile thing in AH, aside from laughing at people who insult others.

Good point SEstud. When Pyro decided that we were in a slum environment i wonder what all elements he was including.

I see it typed here in the BBS every day that the Arenas have become a kinder gentler place. going all round, gf's passed about  to and fro like there was a fire sale on kindness.

All the players that are for the change are responsible for such comments and have clued us in so we are aware the change is good.

Hers the zinger...those same players are the biggest offenders of said behaviors. Kinda makes ya warm and fuzzy all over doesn't it? ;)

Seriously though i find your challenge very appropriate during this time of change and i am certain it would be good for the game, HTC and the players that bring it all together.

B@tfinkV "think its important to recognize the difference between playfull banter, genuine anger, and a bully."

The problem is that its very hard to decern across the text where the difference lies. So in the interest of peace you'd think the dumb tulips would just send a and forget it. But seeing it is ALL ego driven...I doubt they will ever have the discipline to restrain from such rubbish.

Much depends on what the individual considers insulting.  Some are more weathered souls and can take 200 with a grain of salt.  Others seem to be very insulted by being called a dweeb. (Dweeb= any adult that flies cartoon planes on an internet flight sim game. hee hee)  I was basically indoctrinated with insults in this game when my first ingame name was a number.  It never ceased as long as I flew under that number many couldn't resist an insult about it.  What's funny is many that post on these boards against insulting people regularly insulted my handle back then.

Without using any names I will give you a history of insults that I have experienced:
*I am new and log onto AH1 with #'s as a name.

*For first few months I get insulted everyday by green guys for getting in the way or flying in front of them or any number of other newb mistakes I was making at the time. (#'s dweeb) (newb) even (dork) By red guys (Skilless, newb, #'s dweeb, cannon fodder)

*from 6 months til one year I start getting a few kills and regularly insulted on 200, mostly "#'s dweeb", or any other related insults about my handle or how lucky I was to kill them, or how I should "learn to fly"and "get a name".

* off and on through name changes and such the insults generally have been there and are a part of any social community.  If one gets completely out of hand with them, usually they are caught and reprimanded by a moderator and/or "Teh Skuzz"!

So, if you think someone is insulting you, just hit (alt-s) or (alt-r) and send it to skuzzy.  If it warrants a reprimand, granted Skuzzy will be fair!

i played this game for months before using channel 200, it added a whole new dimension to the game for me. i try to get along but some friendly trash talk is fun at times.

my favorite thing is waiting for some one to make a comment about me or my flying. then i am relentless in settling it in the air & rubbing it in on 200 lol.

IF U CANT STAND THE HEAT STAY OUT OF THE FIRE.... in other words if u dont like trash talk stay off the channel :)

200-300?  :O  Mine is generally 2 or 3 THOUSAND! Man, I feel bad now!

I have to admit, I find it halarious (Apologies for attrocious spelling) when my squad (one member in particular, not mentioning any names, but if he reads this he will know) just goes absolutly crazy on vox, and slags off the enemy calling them dorks! :rofl  In all fairness, totally justified, Spit V verses FW 190 and they RUN! If anybody annoys me though, I just laugh it off, or try and keep my cool. If he REALLY annoys me to the point i want to blow up at him, I simply up again, determined to watch his little plane float to earth wingless!

The sad thing, SEgunner, is that it all boils down to sportsmanship in the end. Alot of the older crowd like to think that we would be as noble as the WWI aces of old.

However, NONE of the people playing this game are of that generation.

Many come from the generation of athletes talking trash or making boasts on national T.V. Of Highly televised "Proffesional" Wrestling, where the match is two parts-the interview before they step in the ring, and the actual bout.

I myself, would like to think that the aformentioned would not have an impact on the kind of people that play AH...but It's where many get their examples of what sportmanship is. After all, AH is about competition. You up whatever plane, with the intention of shooting down the guy in the red icon. There can only be one of two outcomes to the fight. Either you hit the ground, or he does.

To this end, HTC has (intentionally or no) designed the game around this competition. This is why we have kill messages...system messages for the #'s of kills we land...That is why there is also a strat game, with a message that says "The Bishops/Rooks/Knights have won the war". The awarding of perk points, which are the spoils of the victor.

Now, If you were/currently are involved in competitive sports(I played Full-contact football in a junior league when I was in Gr. 6-8, Then played for my Highschool team from Freshman to Senior), chances are that you have had enough discipline and talks from your coach, to understand what good sportsmanship means. However, I know that not everyone in the game has had this...And it reflects on ch. 200. I just hope that the AH training corps is able to adress this issue a little, But I know that It's hard to screen a Trash talker out in the TA when all they are doing is asking questions about "How do I take off?"

In my opinion, We'll probably be seeing more bad sportsmanship. Why? Society in RL encourages it less and less...It's even gotten bad in institutions such as NASCAR, the NFL, the NBA...The final score for the game gets put in a stat column, But the after-game fistfight makes the front page. We can do what we can on ch.200, But I've seen the guy stepping in to stop a text fight, usually getting embroiled in it themselves. And, no matter how many times you mute them, they will always pop up again.

We see it everyday on 200 channel.

I NEVER tune in to channel 200 ever . I come play to have fun not to be taunted or to listen to others do it . Best thing HT did was get ride of the white channel one I guess it was :)

Turn it off SEgunner and any of you new guys reading this , never turn it on , you might have more fun that way . I do :)

I'lll take a little (not prolonged) trash talk over the "you HOed me-you rammed me" whines. It's a sad fact of modern life that some egos can only by stroked in a game, but it's usually harmless.
