So I've broken down and tried Firefox portable...
« on: September 22, 2006, 03:57:40 PM »
but got a few questions.

first, is it for sure they  (work) can't see what I'm browsing with this? reason I ask is because I spent WAY too much time here and other forums LOL

second, I got an "update" available, from mozilla directly, tried running and installing it, but then FF portable wouldnt run off my jump drive. is FF portable independant form the regular firefox available from mozilla? how do you update the version on the jump drive?

how in the heck do you get extensions to work? they make no sence to me, and I don't even know if they are working!?!

I know I'll have more the more I use this so keep an eye out here.

thanks.

oh and Sandman, can you PM me about the pandora thingy ;) :aok

Or, get something like this. Not neccesarily that one (I think it's overpriced), but something like it.

As a person who runs a network with a bunch of unruly anarchist Mac users on it.. let me comment:

Depends on what your company runs as a firewall. If its a Sonicwall/Juniper/Fortinet you may be in trouble.

I can see everything. Regardless of browser.

As for pandora, well there are two issues. First I block access to external proxys by protocol inspection and by Sonicwalls Content Filter. Second everything is fully logged and reported automatically in nice pretty graphs, and if you get caught trying to bypass company security measures and browsing policies its a sackable offence.

I've already warned one newbie who was trying to bypass the firewall this year and caught one Mac user with a PC virus in the parallels setup :)

Oh I'm not worried about that vulcan, I listen to pandora every day @ work, and it is no problem with them.

as for what I am going to, here and news and junk, I'm not worried about "bypassing" any security the hospital has, I was just curious as to there is no "residue" on the local PC about browsing right?

my old co-worker and I shared a PC, and he did stupid stuff like install "pop up blockers" that he saw advertised on the net :huh I'm just trying to keep the PC clean.

and the pandora thing is the firefox extension where you can rip the songs on pandora ;)

Oh different pandora then.

Dunno about residue. I doubt it :) . Those 'pop-up blocks' are usually full of malware themselves.
