What kind of unusual traits do you or people you know have?

Also. What Gems have your kids, or kids you know came out with?

Not necessarily bad traits.
Just ones that kinda sometimes make you scratch your head.

My son has a couple.

Most people I know will round time off to the nearest 15 minutes or half hour.

Example:: Ask someone what time they want to be picked up or will arrive and they will usually say something like.

"You can get me at around 1:30-2:00"

Or

"I will be there around 1:15 - 1:30"

My son on the other hand has to be more precise.
Never have I heard him round off like most people I know.

Pose either one of those qurestions to him and his responce is likely to be

"Pick me up at about 1:37"
Or
"I'll be home at 1:23 or so"

I have learned to be careful what I ask of him as he will take things very literally. Well maybe I havent learned as the following will show you.

Most of you know my son is away at college.
Well We're both Vikings fans and he decided he wants to come home whenever they are going to be televised on TV so we can watch the game together.
The other day I discovered the Viking game is going to be aired today in our area. So I instant massage him and let him know about it.
So were talking about me picking him up and I tell him in these exact words "When thats a few days away so when you know what time you want me to pick you up lemme know. You dont have to decide right now. But when you do decide give me a call"

Soooo I was thinking he would probably call this morning after he got up.

Nooooo. Not MY boy.

Instead the phone rings last night at like 2:00 AM damn near giving me a heart attack seeing his number and thinking maybe something is wrong.

So I pick up "Hello?"

"Hi Dad. You can come pick me up at 12:05"

"oook. why didnt you just call me tomorrow when you got up to tell me this"

"Well you said when I decided. To call you."

Ok my sister called the other day with this gem.

My nephew (4 or 5 I ferget) lost two teeth.
so my sister tells him to put them under the pillow for the tooth fairy.

Nope. He wants to take them to school for show and tell.
Which he does.
that night my sister again tells him to put them under his pillow for the tooth fairy. Again he refuses.
His reason.....

"Im going to save them for when I need the money"

LOL.

My daughter used to have one nice thing she always did.

Poop 2 seconds after i changed her, and sometimes with a grin.

Looked like she pooped only half what she had stored and then patiently waited for her next change before letting the rest go.

My 2 year old son thinks its the ultimate when he squeezes one out on you as you are changing his diaper. Sometime I think he is going to break something with the effort.

Reminds me of when my son was an infant.

I have this one sister in law who is a first class BIOCH.
And a clean freak to boot (and I do mean FREAK)
BTW she loves me about as much as I love her.

Anyway. one day when my son was a few weeks old she was changing him
And shes' talking to him all nice nice and she leans over and he responds by Peeing all over her.

I roared laughing.
She shoots me this dirty look and said "You would find that funny"

I said "On you..Damn right".
Walked over to my son, kissed him on the forehead and said "thats my boy"

Was one proud papa that day

Being a camp counselor, I ran across a lot of kids. The bad ones are way more memorable then the good ones, but they still can't top what the good ones do.

My camp was set up by the rank system. In each activity there are a series of ranks with appropriate names. To get a rank, you have to be able to do a certain number of things proficiently.

So my one kid was in doing really well in Sailing. In about a 1 month period, he got a rank that most kids take 2 months at (1 month per year camp). He was the closest to beating me for the camp record of reaching that rank (2 weeks). Anyway, very cool kid, always eager to do something awesome. So he is on his way to get the rank of Lightning Skipper, which is the most difficult sailing rank (not the highest) to achieve.

About 2.5 weeks in (out of 4) the kid gets bored of doing the same stuff over and over as other kids tried to learn how to sail the lightning, and proceeds to use his remaining time to get the HIGHEST rank in another activity, all the while leisurely sailing on Sunfish.

Very cool kid in my book.

I'll never forget the story my sister told me about one of their neighbors in South Carolina. Seems the youngest boy liked to run around and play with Daddy's hat outside in the front yard. Daddy's hat was made of linen and had a couple eye holes cut in it.

One time i had to take a 6yr old to have some x-rays on her.

On the way in she was a bit nervous as was to be expected when a kid goes to the hospital.

We enter the x-ray waiting room.

lots of people with casts and neck-immobilizing devices... old ladies with walkers... wheelchairs...

for a 6yr old to be told she is there for the same reason everyone else is was sort of like telling her this was going to happen to her.

So yeah, she was really, really nervous. We spent the 10 minutes wait explaining to her (again) that this was only a photo of her bones nothing else.

Now.. here's the thing that i'll never forget:

As our turn comes in she doesnt want to stand off her seat. She is frightened. Had to tell her it was ok nothing was going to happen to her to trust me and come with me inside the x-ray room.

She thinks about it for a second then gives me her hand and hops off the chair.

The attendant tells her that I need to leave the room for the xray and she squeezes my hand... again I try to tell her it wont hurt at all and its ok that its only a photograph of her bones they'll be taking.

She looks up at me and says 'but... wont it hurt when she takes my skin off so she can photo my bones?'

It took everything i had to not laugh. That day I realized just how much trust a kid can give you and just how darn cute they can get in their logic.
