A guy who is in the US Special Forces (Lt Col.) posted this on another board I read.
Oh the joys of unconstrained authority. Always cracks me up when people think the military is supremely competent and incapable of the same levels of bumbling we see from other federal agencies.
So I walk into a military air terminal in Qatar today to catch a C130 flight to Afghanistan. There's an airport metal detector and baggage x-ray machine by the door, with 2 airmen standing there. "Sir, everyone must go through," they say, so I do.
It beeps. "Sir, do you have any metal objects on you?". I answer "Of course. I have a rifle, a pistol, and a large knife." Response: "ok."
Then I put the bags on the belt. It beeps. "Sir, do you have any explosives, ammunition, or contraband in your bags?" "Yes, I have 210 rounds of 5.56 ammo, 45 rounds of 9mm ammo, and 2 grenades." "Oh, ok."
Then the kicker: "Sir, do you have any lighters on you?" "No, why?" "Because you can't take those."
Hey, I got an idea. Let's have the federal government run our school systems!
