TrackIR and the "move head" keys
« on: September 21, 2006, 02:03:25 PM »
I have a TrackIR, but I do not have the vector expansion.  If my TrackIR is active, the keys which normally move (not rotate) the head do not work.  This means that I am unable to look around my armoured headrest without turning off TrackIR.  It is a serious liability in combat, as I have no way of "rubbernecking" without letting go of my joystick and taking several seconds to turn off my TrackIR, look back using the keyboard or mouse, and then move my head.  Is this going to be fixed?

Hi Benny,

You should probably ask this question in Technical Support forum, you'll probably get a response there.

Benny, don't see a way around this.  It always appears that TIR "captures" the default view position.  For instance, even though I have customized all of my normal views to each airplane (using the F10 routine) when I select a view with my hat switch with TIR enabled it's always the default position.

My question to you though is why aren't you using vector expansion?  One of the things that I've found is that the additional axis provided by VE makes an enormous difference in the effectiveness of TIR overall.  Even when locked into a set view (for instance forward for gunnery) the VE allows me to move forward-aft, up-down, etc., which provides an outstanding ability for deflection shots.  My recommendation is to get VE and get away from the keyboard.
