Sounds like a heck of an idea. Give those folks a chance to race for real in a setting that is about as controlled and safe as it can be made.
That's where formal drag racing came from before if got professional. It used to be that the town dirt track was the place where all the hotrodders would bring their cars and see who was the best wrench / driver in town. It's sad that racing has gone away from the common person and is now almost exclusively a pro sport outside of some small tracks (round and drag).
