The War of 1812 Song

Come back oh proud Canadians
To before they had TV
No Hockey Night in Canada
There was no CBC

In 1812 Madison was mad
He was the President, you know
He thought he'd tell the British
Where they ought to go

He thought he'd invade Canada
He thought that he was tough
Instead we went to Washington
And burned down all his stuff

And the White House burned, burned, burned
And we're the ones that did it!
It burned burned burned
While the President ran and cried

It burned burned burned
Things were very historical
and the Americans ran and cried like a bunch of little babies, wah wah wah
in the war of 1812!

Now some hillbillies from Kentucky
dressed in green and red
left home to fight in Canada
but they returned home dead

Its only war the Yankees lost
except for Vietnam
and also the Alamo
and the Bay of... Ham

The loser was America
The winner was ourselves
So sing along and gloat about
The war of 1812

Chorus:
And the White House burned, burned, burned
But the Americans won't admit it
It burned burned burned
It burned and burned and burned

It burned burned burned
I bet that made them mad
and the Americans ran and cried like a bunch of little babies, wah wah wah
in the war of 1812!

Death is no easy answer
For those who wish to know
Ask those who have been before you
What fate the future holds
It ain't pretty

I like the National Anthem sung by a military choir and band. Not a Whitney Houston style.

Personal favorite is 'Flower of Scotland', preferably sung by 60 or 70 odd thousand foot soldiers of the Tartan Army just before gettin it right up the English in some form of sporting contest - football or rugby being top choices.

Sadly, the 'gettin it right up the English' bit doesn't happen very often, but hope does spring entrernal :D

Ballad of the Green Berets.

Eternal Father.

and just food for thought:

One day a Colonel, a Lieutenant and a Warrant Officer were hiking and unexpectedly came upon a large, raging, violent river. They needed to get to the other side, but had no idea of how to do so.

The Warrant Officer called out to God, praying, "Please God, give me the strength to cross this river." Poof! God gave him big arms and strong legs, and he was able to swim across the river. It did, however, take him about two hours, and he almost drowned a couple of times.

Seeing this, the Lieutenant prayed to God, saying, "Please God, give me the strength and the tools to cross this river." Poof! God gave him a rowboat. He was able to row across the river in about an hour, but it was rough, and he almost capsized the boat a couple of times.

The Colonel had seen how things worked out for the other two, so when he prayed to God, he said, "Please God, give me the strength, the tools, and the intelligence to cross this river." And poof! God turned him into an NCO. He looked at the map, hiked upstream a couple of hundred yards, and then walked across the bridge.

Ride of the Valkyries

Guess it is kinda a "you had to be there" thing ... and then ...

America, America
God shed his light on thee
to crown thy good with brotherhood
from sea to shining sea
We do not stop playing because we grow old
We grow old because we stop playing

Seriously:

The most offensive, woman hating, cop hating, drug and violence endorsing, foul mouthed gangsta rap is our most patriotic music.

Much as I despise it, that music is a symbol of the freedoms we still have in this country.

You can write, record, and publish a song extoling the virtues of a land and a people under any oppressive regime. I'm sure North Korea has plenty of My Country 'Tis of Thee equivalents that get played all day - means nothing.

50 Cent proves we have the liberties those other songs only speak of.
