Game freezes when I try to join

I'm a new player trying to get into AH2 but I have a problem with freezing.  After connecting to a server and loading everything I come to the screen with the clipboard thing in the tower.  Everything is untextured and it freezes the game.  Also, on the main menu the clipboard thing is colored dark for some reason, and a page attached to the clipboard keeps flopping around in the background.  I have no idea what thats about but it might be related.

EDIT: Ok I have another problem to add... I can get into the practice arena but when I do my viewpoints is spinning wildly all over the place and I cant stop it.  

System:

Dell Inspiron e1705
7900gs
2gb RAM
60gb 7200 rpm harddrive
1.6 ghz Duo Core (first gen)
etc etc...

in most cases this is a duo core problem. Check out a fix in the STICKY

I read that but the only incompatibility I see are AMD dual cores...mine is Intel.
