So you want to fly a P51 by yourself?

Those days are over!  But there was a day, back in the 70s where $1800 bucks could get it done.

I was sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading this, as every one of Bud's pireps sucks you in.  A worthy read.  :aok

Good read, thx.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Type: P-51D-30NA
Serial #: 44-74536
Registry: N991R
Owner: Brent Hisey
Base: Bethany OK
Status: Flying

I had the pleasure of sitting in this plane this past Saturday.  I went to a local airfield that had the B-17 Sentimental Journey flown in and while looking for what hanger it was at, stumbled across not only this GORGEOUS PonyD, but a Yak-3 as well.

I was given permission to SIT in the cockpit and play with the controlls for a few min.  (ok yeah, I mad "rat a tat" noises and I pretended to be flying it)

Was the highlight of my year.

AND for $500.00 a 1/2 hour, the owner will take me up in it.

I wish I had the grand to drop, but alas, not today.

The owner fly's it, and the Yak most Sat and Sun. mornings and I was invited to come out whenever I wanted and watch.  (woot)

I've been meaning to post about it.

Thanks for that. For a moment I was really their. I used to live in Kissimme and watched their duel seat 51 but never got a ride. I don't know if they are still there but they were in operation in 1992-94. Great read. I only used the front half of my seat.

:rofl That's my hometown.  Burchinal was shut down for running drugs so many times it wasn't funny.  He was also busted several times for flying under powerlines beside the highway.  He lost a B-17 in a field across the road on takeoff due to improper preflight and maintenance (birds nests in the nacelles).

I surely loved seeing those planes when I was a kid, but that guy was in constant trouble.  Last time I was by there about 5 years ago, it was just husks sitting in an overgrown field beside a rat trap truck stop with the first available liquor outside the county limits on the other side.

LOL running drugs is prolly the only way he was able to charge 1800 bucks for all that time.  LOL
