Pyro and HT....I have a cable modem and havent had any problems until the last week or two.  Seems I keep getting disco'd every 15 mintues or so.  My beacon will turn red but while its red, everything is still fine on Roger Wilco.  Nothing has changed on my end.  I've been running RW for months without a problem.

What in the world is causing these discos???

OK More info....my average ping is 125ms.  Ran ping for about 5 minutes and had 8% packet loss.  Neither of those sound too bad.  Pyro, or HT, how does to code determine if "Host Connection Lost"?

I looked at the traceroute you sent me.  Your times are good but 8-10% packet loss is very high.  Do have any traceroute utility?  A good utility can show you where this packetloss is occuring.  Also, are you getting the switching to TCP message?

Only traceroute utility I have is the one standard with Win98 (same thing I used to generate the tracert for ya).  The packetloss is occuring somewhere outside of the RoadRunner network.  RoadRunner is connected to the internet through a gateway provided by UUNET.  This is where most of the packetloss is occuring.

RoadRunner cable modems are not all they are cracked up to be.

My adsl is getting spurts of this kind of thing as well, beacon changes, text buffer delays etc. But it's random and comes and goes. Is probably a little bit linked to number of ppl online lately. I believe HTC stated that once we go pay the bandwidth will be increased so it never falls equal or below required amounts. Is this true?

Hi All,

This Feb. my cable company is supposed to start offering internet access.  As a result I started looking for some free isps, as I won't pay for both the cable connection and a dial up isp and I have seen on this message board and Argo's that cable modems seem to sux for AH and WB.

So I surfed around and found one called Freeweb, that has a local dial up number in my area.  I installed it and guess what??  Connections to both WB and AH are much better than the isp I'm paying for!  So I would advise that all the cable modem guys surf around for one of the free isps and use that for flight siming.  Cable modems and ASDL just seem to cause all kinds of problems in the massive multiplayer arenas.

Just some food for thought.

Go to the help/tips page in the JG2 hanger and follow the Speedguide link, it has a patch and some registry tweaks for cable/ASDL connections.
Info as follows:
The following program directly from Microsoft supposedly fixes a bug in Vtcp.386. It should be installed on Windows 95, 98 or 98SE.

According to Microsoft, because of a math error, the Windows 9x TCP/IP stack incorrectly computes a timer used to retransmit packets (based on round trip time to a server). When you are transmitting packets over high-speed/high-delay networks, such as any broadband Internet connection, this can result in unnecessary retransmissions and lower throughput... This fix helps reduce retransmission of packets, therefore improving the overall performance of the TCP/IP stack.

I too am losing my connection every couple of minutes. My beacon is always green, I have a cable modem and this problem just started with version 1.00 Is this supposed to make me pay to play? Keep getting shorter time as the 2 weeks draws to a  close?

YES! This is the same time that I noticed it! Who is your Cable modem provider?  Mine is RoadRunner.  Maybe we can figure out if its a service related thing.

I too am using Road Runner. I'm in Charlotte NC and I think i've got it figured out. For whatever reason, the cable's been out today (modem and tv) probably from the bad weather we've been having. That might be why I keep disconnecting.

I've had cable modem service for two months now. Not a problem at all. ISP name is ISPChannel.
