Irwink, since I don't run Vista, and az1's problem is associated with it, does it sound unreasonable to click "compatibility" to see if I can get rid of the spinning clipboard?

Hap - sure, try the compatibility thing. It won't hurt anything and if it doesn't help or doesn't work at all, just change it back.

spinning clipboard was caused by (i thought anyway) AMD A64 dualcore drivers, and nvidia drivers not working well together (due to timings and syncing of two cores). Latest AMD a64 drivers fix that.

However since you are running intel im supprised you have this issue. try disabling powersaving modes in the control panel?

It was all dual-core AMD CPU's.  Not just the 64 bit ones.  The problem had to do with the low level clocks of the two cores not being dealt with correctly.  AMD had to do an external driver to fix it.

The problem can exist on any dual core CPU.  If the low level drivers are not done correctly, then the clock problem will be prevalent.  It may be Apple not setting up the initialization of the CPU's the way Windows wants it.

All these people stuck in the dark ages  of Linux.javascript:smilie('')

I play plenty of 3d games in linux with transgamer (winex) and a few native ports.
Which works on nearly every version of Linux. Sound,  gee most every version I have tried, my sound works out of the "box" no special tweeking, I guess it must be the free programing stuff  form MS.

Sigh,  so I will continue to use a $200 OS to play a $14.95 per month game.
BOOT CAMP, why spend  $1500 on a Mac to spend another $200 on XP, to play a $14.95 per month game. javascript:smilie(':huh')

Update, I have turned off most of the security features of Vista, (yes I reloaded along with XP and Ubuntu, fedora, suse, debian)
I stiil get warps in Vista ( not as many as before)  wired or wireless. I have also tweeked my router settings.  perhase ican help get Aces ready for Vista, I can see a alot of upset players in the near future.

Good for you 1azbear.  I have 3 Linux distros at home.  None of which support my Audigy 2 or Audigy 2 ZS sound card.

None of them support the 3D rendering abilites of my ATI X800XT, or X1900XTX.

Now, I can go all over the Internet and find most things to make the stuff work, but that is the problem, not the solution.

I have been using Linux since Linus released his first version on Usenet.  I like the OS.  It does a lot of cool things.  But it is nowhere near ready for the masses.  It is nowhere near ready to be used as a game developement platform either.

Again, if you spend enough time on the Internet to find stuff, you can make it work, but again, that is the problem and not the solution.

A solution has everything you need readily available.  Here is the acid test.  Ask 100 people how to get a game up and running on Linux who have never used Linux.  Guess what?  None of them will have a clue.  And once they find out how difficult it is, they will never touch Linux again.

Until Linux can shake its 'for geeks only' status, it will never be a mainstream alternative to MS.  I wish it was not true, but it is.
