We lost a brave and good man that day. He is proof that there still exists uncommon valor in our Military. and RIP.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

A soldier can do something beyond brave, sacrifice his life with absolute certainty, and not be recognized to the same degree as others if his act of bravery was short and simple.  What Monsoor did should deserve the recognition of anyone who earned the Congressional Medal of Honor.  But, since the entire event only took a second or two, there’s just not enough of a story to lead to such a medal.
I recently met a man who was awarded the Silver Star in WWII; he claimed that earning a medal had more to do with how well the story/citation was written than how brave a person was.  He had drug a few wounded soldiers out of harms way while under fire.  His CO was a fantastic writer and wrote of his actions with a bit of exaggeration and drama.  It was a great story and he was awarded the medal.

I was under the iunderstanding that to earn the Medal of Honor, it had to be a selfless act, without thinking about it. Which is what I see here.

Throwing yourself on a grenade, with no possible way of surviving.  Truely selfless.  He didn't even take the risk of trying to throw the grenade, because it would have put more risk to his comrades.

Nope the mod followed the simple guideline that the original poster didn't seem to understand. Merely linking an article will only get the post deleted. You have to add something to it. It's a shame that the mod was so simple he couldn't see the article for the good thing it was but even more a shame that SOA didn't follow the guidlines that have been made rather clear by skuzzy. It was a good link.  :(

The MP's are not obligated to read any article linked.  Without something to talk about what the article was about and why it might be important to be posted here, or something to that effect, it will get excised.

There is no way the MP's are going to be allowed to make subjective calls on editing.  This is what gets them into the area of being proclaimed bias.

It's been stated over and over again.  If you are going to post just a link, it will get excised, regardless of the content of said link.  If you cannot see your way clear to work in that framework, then expect to get your posts edited.

Now, why has this come up?  Well, there was an escalation of cut-n-pastes and troll links being done.  It should not have been a problem, and would not have been an issue had everyone just ignored them.  But, of course, that did not happen.
So we end up with flaming, hate filled, threads.  People getting banned, posts getting edited entirely too often and other maladies.  So, let's attack the source.

Enter the tightening of the rules.  A link, with nothing added as to why it should exist on this board is a troll.  Simple.  The MP's are instructed to remove such posts.  There is no way we are going to attempt to quantify every topic as to whether or not it should be excised.

It will be done, regardless of the topic.  Again, the MP's, nor I, are not obligated to read any link.  So, if you want your thread to stand, then take a few minutes to put some of your own content in it.

Cut-n-pastes will get excised, regardless of the content added.  It goes to potential copyright violation.  Simple.

Well.....we need a new category of reasons to delete posts then, as it wasn't a bait, or troll, or meant to incite or annoy. #15 is almost the same as #5....ya could re-write one of em

Quote
"He never took his eye off the grenade, his only movement was down toward it," said a 28-year-old lieutenant who sustained shrapnel wounds to both legs that day. "He undoubtedly saved mine and the other SEALs' lives, and we owe him."

(I'm not sure what more you can add to this...it just shouldn't go unnoted...was on the wires for about a day, then back to Foley)
