2 team arenas?
« on: October 17, 2006, 09:49:52 AM »
I like the early war, except for the fact that plane set is pitifully limited, and the attendance is low.  (this might be an example of cause and effect?

I was just thinking.....when arena numbers are low, or if they are chronically low, turn it into a 2 team format. But then again, that would be like the AvsA arena. wouldn't it?

The AvA is much more than just a 2 player arena. It's sad it doesn't get more use.

The difference between the AvA and your proposed 2 country format would be the plane sets.  In the AvA, you are not limited by time period per se (set up range from Battle of Britain 1940 to Manchuria late 1945, depending on what is up at the time), but you are limited in that one side has allied rides and one side has axis rides.  In your set up, the time frame would be set, and both sides would have full access to all available time-period aircraft.

So, in the AvA you will not have Spit vs Spit or 109 vs 109 combat.  You could in the EW / MW arenas in a two team format.

Some have asked if the AvA is irrelevant with the EW arena, and IMO it is still the only place that allows any type of historic feel.

Long winded way of saying that I think your idea has merit if numbers continue to be low, without agreeing that it would in any way infringe upon the AvA arena.

HITech's words on the subject. Not sure if they apply to the new environment.

What 3 sides does for arena play.

1. It balances out 1 side having more players than the other.

2. It Spreds the fights out accross the arena. If you only have 2 sides you would see a lot more of everyone fighting in 1 spot.

3. It provides everone with more enemys to fight. If all 3 sides are = numbers you always have 2 enemys to fight for your sides 1.

4. It creates a more dynamic enviorment because who each country is attacking changes . As opposed to 2 sides where you are always attacking the same side.

5. Countryies devlope a personality over time. With 3 countries we end up with a more diverse flavor.
