My dad flys Pacific routes for Northwest, and he was en-route to Honolulu when it happened. They were able to land ok around 10:00AM, but had to park the 747-400 on the ramp because the jetways had no electricity. He said the airport personnel had to drive the stair carts all over the place to get people off the airplanes, and they had to wait for about 2 hours just to deboard.
He also said that the customs security checkpoints were a madhouse because they didnt have the scanners operating, etc. Since they were crew members, they caught a break and fortunately didn't have to go through that mess.
There was no power in the entire city, so he said just trying to find someplace to eat was near impossible. He finally found a place that was able to heat up raamen noodles and sell for $7 bucks.
When it got dark, the hotel handed out glow sticks to people so they could see where they were going in the halls etc. Crazy stuff!
