goldie to answer question #1, you can use the aces high film viewer to change the film to a .avi which then can be put into movie maker.
you can then make that film into smaller clips.

hope this helps,

Here's a quick lesson in move making:

1- Download Fraps from http://www.fraps.com , you will need it.

2-Start Fraps (1st!). Under the Movies section, change your hotkey to something other than the default F6.  I use R.  F6 is the key for snap view in the film viewer and will mess up your shot when you go to record.

3-Start your film viewer. 1280 x 1084 resolution is what the film viewer was designed for.  If you use a smaller res., you will lose some funtion keys for the viewer.

4-Review a recorded AH film.  Find the shot you want, angles, distance, etc.

5-Important!  Re-open your film.  If you just rewind, the smoketrails and ack explosions will still be there from the first viewing.

6-About 15 seconds from the point where you want to start recording the clip you want, set the angle you want, then go to fullscreen (gives you much better film quality). Fullscreen takes about 5-10 seconds for all the details to load up, so do this 5-10 seconds before the point you want to start recording w/ Fraps.

7-Record your clip.  Hit the hotkey again to stop filming.  Fraps will save the clip as an .avi, the film format you will need for Movie Maker.  I think the default destination is the fraps folder, but I made a folder in My Documents called My Videos and I save it there.

8-Exit Film Viewer and open Movie Maker.  Import your .avi's into Movie maker.

9-In Movie Maker, you can arrange your clips, add titles, transitions, music & effects. When you have it all done to your liking, go to File>Save as Movie file.  You will then get options for the finished product.  Viola! You now have a movie in .wmv format.  I'm sure I made it sound harder than it is.  Just do these steps in order & you should be good to go. Any problems or questions, post em here

When you download Fraps, set it up just like this and you'll be good to go:

You start Fraps 1st, then start your film viewer.  You should see a yellow number in 1 corner of your film viewer screen.  That is how many fps you are getting.  When you hit your Fraps record button, the number will change to red.  Hit the record key again to stop recording.  You now have an .avi of the footage you just recorded in whatever folder you choose to send your Fraps footage to.  These will be large files since they are uncompressed .avis.  A 5-6 minute film is usually a little over a gig of footage in .avi stage. After your project is over, just delete them.  Don't do it while still in the Movie Maker stage.  WMM needs those files to stay there until it's done, or you will lose that footage.  Movie Maker is easy.  Import into Collections your footage, songs, etc. Then drag & drop onto the timeline.

Sorry for the multiple posts, but I'm copying this from where I posted it on my squad website.

Demo fraps is fine.  I used demo fraps.   But I would also recommend to buy fraps if possible if you are going to make a few films.

I agree totally Krypto, Vegas all the way.  But for someone making their first movie, MOVIE MAKER might be better to learn the basics on.
