Hi there.  Not sure where the newbie area is, but I was wondering if someone could tell me if they thought this was a good game or not?  Looks pretty cool, but it would be good to get some feedback from people that have played before I decide to buy or not

You get a two week free trial as a newbie, so nothing to lose in trying it out.

The Main Arena is the newbie arena, guys have been flying there for years who still don't have a clue.

Welcome!

Oh, and...

Best advice I can give you is to try the game yourself with a 2 week free trial, and decide whether you think it is good or not...Most of us that are active with the bbs are paying costumers of many months, and even many years...A lot of us do have certain problems with the game and how it is run, but nothing big enough to not play...Hands down this is the best flight sim out there with the best community (at times :D ), and the staff as bar none to any other game...Where can you call for technical support and actually talk to the guy who wrote the software?

I recommend you spend your first two nights inside the training arena...There are a lot of great trainers in there who will be willing to help with whatever you need...After you feel comfortable, move into the MA and start learning about the "war" and squads ect...and decide for yourself....

Let me also recommend that you purchase a mic, and joystick if you dont own already.........

welcome aboard and I hope you enjoy!

First of you can't loose.  2 weeks free and no credit card needed for 2 weeks at least.

It's the best interactive combat sim there is.  Lots to do lots to kill, bomb, shell or tank.

My best advice read the "wep page help" or down load "help" file read up on DOT / KEY commands.....make notes.   Once your ready to have a go check out the training arena.  About 5th arena own TA = Training arena.

The guys are helpfull in there.  They'll help u set your system up from radio text to mapping joy stick.  Fly with a mouse can be done but a stick is best.

Once you get your first kill you'll be hooked.:aok

Last time I looked at rank I believe the lowest person was in the 4,000's...not sure if that still stands?  Even if there are 4,000, 1/2 most likely have open accounts that are not played....

its still a ginormous community though...I have never seen anything this big in flight sims.....

so how did you hear about AH?  was it a 3:27am commercial on Military channel? =)

Welcome, do spend some time in the training arena, a few hours there will help get you well on your way when you hit one of the main arenas.

People are willing to help in any arena, but  nothing sorrier then hearing a newbee asking what button to push to release bombs or switch weapons, the arenas get really busy and it's not easy to respond to a request for help with a zeek on your six.

Enjoy but be advised that for some it becomes a sickness with no cure and it' s$15.00 a month.

I blame my uncle, and his law breaking. He lent me a pirate cd with several games, one of which was Aces high, thats how I heard about it. Ive only been playing for about 7-8 months, but I love it! I hope you feel the same way!

Cav, Those guys in the 4000's? I think they might have been me!:D

I'd have a better chance in running into a Dodo Bird in the middle of rush hour, walking down the I-5 with two hookers in tow before I see a useful post from glock89- Ack-Ack

One important thing to remember when choosing a name/handle ... is how easy it is for others to read and pronounce when wanting to give you a "check 6".

Yep. The numbers - 12553534 - or unitelligibles - bltklltrppt - are usually dead by the time i tried to decipher their name out of the corner of my eye, failing, thinking what the and going for the '''''''''' till i have EVERYONE in sight marked except the one in need of the chk6 :).

To be honest, i cant tell you. I have been playing (and paying) for this game over two years now, no end in sight. If its a good game for *you* - only you can decide.... go for the two week trial and see if you like it. Dont forget to check out the other aspects of the game (like the Axis vs Allied Arena, the Special Events/Snapshots, Air Races, Duelling Arena......

Looks pretty cool, but it would be good to get some feedback from people that have played before I decide to buy or not

You dont have to pay for it immediatly. What you downloaded is the FULL game. OFFLINE play as well as the H2H servers (8 Player mode) are free. For the ONLINE arenas, you get a two week trial period, after that youll have to pay 14.95 a mmonth for access to online arenas.

Cool. So how big is this community? How many people people play this game?

During US prime time (evening) there are around 400-600 people online. The amount of active players can roughly be sketched around 3500 (lowest rank). How big this community *really* is (as in how many active subscriptions).... well, only HTC knows i guess.

And why havn't I heard of it before? LOL

LoL, i guess that depends on where you are living on this earth and what your usual passtimes are :).

Welcome to Aces High.

In the Main Arenas, there is no "newbie area" - your in the cold water and need to start swimming :). But dont worry - weve all been there, done it and survived :)

Something thats kind of a "newbie area": When you decided to come online, visit us in the Training Arena. Always someone there that can help you get started, answer questions and/or fight you. In there, damage is OFF and we also have rules of engagement.

For info on how the game itself works:

http://trainers.hitechcreations.com - the Trainer Corps homepage
http://www.netaces.org - for lots of info on gameplay, tactics and more
http://www.hitechcreations.com/ahhelp - the official help file

Also, at the top of the Forum list, theres the Help & Training forums. If you have a question that you cant answer, try searching the forum for it, or, if you cant find the answer, post the question.

Yes, what SlapShot says.

Names like: ticktock, bigsky, copycat, etc are good names. Names like bt12kw, comud, niwkkd, etc etc, are not good names. :lol  Get a dictionary and flip threw it. You will find something.
