You'll lose training quality if you're worried about futzing around with a camera. Maximize your training time by focusing on flying, even when you're building your solo hours. If you have time to point the camera out the window, you'd be better off practicing turns around a point or calculating ground speed on the fly while navigating point to point off of VORs. Few things are as frustrating to an instructor as a student who is preoccupied with things other than learning.
Save the camera stuff for later. I'd say 100 hours but that's probably unrealistic. If you can exercise self restraint then carry it in your flight bag in case something happens that you want to document, but if not I suggest leaving the camera at home or in the car until after your checkride.
