This is the scenario:

You have the following hugley under powered Pc

Amd 333mhz
48 meg
voodoo3

Ah is just about playable
You have £100 in your pocket ($175)

what single purchase will make the greatest improvement
(pls dont say a ZX Spectrum -or commodore 64 for US readers-lol)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also I have Logitech wingman extreme.

generally speaking,do you sacrifice general stick quality when you go for force feedback:ie-is it a "gimmick" or is it worth it?

With a system like that, you don't buy a jstick.  I don't know what prices are like over there, but your first purchases should be MOBO, and CPU, oh and RAM.  Perhaps you should consider buying the MOBO now, when u have some more $$ saved, buy the CPU, and then well the RAM is dirt cheap these days.

you may even need a case as well...

FF IMO is a gimick, and I've tried both FF and non FF of the same stick.  Tis a waste o money for a jstick.  For a steering wheel I think its likely awesome though +)

When you say 333 Mhz, do you mean k6-2, or k6-2+ 3dnow?

Honestly I wouldn't put a ton of money into it, but I would upgrade the RAM & the CPU.  You may have to do a bios upgrade to use the faster chips, but it's possible up to a 550 mhz may work.  RAM will help somewhat as well.

Since the k6 series was discontinued recently it is possible to find them dirt cheap.  Ram is also very cheap.
