Spikes in CH F16 Combatstick (Not the USB one)
« on: February 11, 2000, 03:10:00 AM »
Hello,

I have some spikes in my Joystick sometimes (makes a suddent left turn for a 10th of second or so, once on a while...)

Any trick on fixing this ? I am using the last Win98 drivers, both for the Joy and the Soundcard (SB Live Player).

Is my Joystick getting old ?

Sounds like some joystick maintenance is in order.

Have you ever cleaned the pots in that CH Stick?  It might be time.

I have an old Sidewinder, so I don't need to do this stuff, hence I have no idea what to use to clean it.  Maybe some CH veterans can chime in here?  Failing that, drop in to your local Radio Shack and tell them what you need.  They should have something you can spray in there to clean it out.

Saw, as Leph said, clean the pots, however, this is only a temp fix.  I emailed CH Products for some new pots, no charge. Once they got here, I went to an electronics store and matched them with what the store had in stock.  You might want to remove one of your pots and check an electronic store for a match instead of waiting for CH to send them to you (might take awhile being in England and all, CH is in California)

You also might try dampening them out in the JS panel, you can get by with dampening them, but again, it's only a temp fix, they will get worse eventually.

Got one myself, and have the same problem. I doubt it is in need of cleaning; it is only a few months old. I find that recalibrating every time I log onto AH helps.

Springs stay intact with disassembly of the CH sticks, carefully push the stick thru the bottom of the base, it's really easy compared to a TM stick! No Worries!

My first post here and inregards to the CH stick. I found that after using game card 3 most times when I reboot or shutdown that re calibration is needed. Dont know why yet and its a pain, but the problem only arose after installing a game card.

jbnac that sounds very odd. What type of stick are you using with the CH Gamecard?
Is the Gamecard new or used? And are you using Win95 or Win98?  Oh yeah. Is your soundcard port disabled in device manager?
I have a great step by step procedure used to set your Gamecards speed so that your stick is smooth and works great. It does make a difference! And it is better to set it manually than use the auto setting feature that the Gamecard software sets.
I'll dig that up and post it when I find it.
In the meantime check the above on your end....
