A base capture idea......
« on: October 25, 2006, 11:55:12 AM »
Would it be possible to make capturing fields a spawn kind of thing... if you take base A then you would be allowed to take bases B and C and so on spider webing out so to speak.

This could be added into the editor and allow the map creator more controll over the startiegic side of the captures.  This could be added to the field properties window  as----- Base capturable by  ???   Maybe a drop down list where you could select the fields said base can be captured by?

Then maps could be as capture or furball friendly as the map creator wanted it to be....  Want the map to be more capture friendly more capture spawn points to allow for more base captures and sneaks. Want it to be more furball friendly have less capture spawns then the map creator could funnel players into more head to head fights for the base.

The down side I see to this would be that it would create a bit more work load for the map creator so maybe in the (Field capturable by) drop down an ALL option could be default so the map would be just like the ones we currently have if the creator didn't want to fool with it.  And the fact that HTC would have to do some programing for this.

This may be a bad idea but it was just rolling around in my head while I was having the morning coffee so I thought I would post it. :)

  Any thoughts/ideas on this?

Anything that would help steer the players to each other can't be a bad thing.

Based on what you are suggesting, there would be points on the map that would be hard fought over to open the door for more.  You'd know where the fights were going to be.

Makes good sense.

This doesn't sound unreasonable, but can it be done?  Better yet, would it ever get done?  And in what kind of time frame, two weeks?:aok

I remember HiTech speaking of something along these lines somewhere. Can't seem to find it though.

Heres a pic to help illistrate.

Ok you have Fields A,B and C.   A is obviously the most important base to have as controlling it gives you the possibility to take 3 different fields where as B and C are less important with only 1 capture point.   If you lose A then you no longer have an option to take E unless you get A back or work around and get I some how. Farther on you have a choke point at J but if you get J that opens up alot of options.

And I konw some like those super sneaky long range runs so say we leave N with the CAPTURABLE BY ALL option checked so if you are sneaky enough you may take these types of bases wheather or not the have a point leading to them.

You can fly or drive from any field to capture a base at the capture point.  Or just furball between a couple bases that don't have any shared capture points.
Not to meantion people would have an Idea where the attack might be going next unless it was a base that had lots of points from it. Though bases like that would be a huge target for attack. :)

I think this type of play would promote teamwork... I've seen alot of missions created to take the current zone bases and may great fights evolve from those take attempts.  This gives fields more value than we have now.

this sort of thing used to "exist" sorta on the large maps with better designed layouts. Certain fields had better GV spawn points, and better chance of defence/offence, and often led to large battles just for these fields as they was rather important within the whole area.... like zone fields etc.. However since going back to the dull boring small maps from AHI, we've pretty much lost that.

taking "undefended bases" miles from the main fight is just one way of trying to create something that some see is missing.... like stealing A21 and A20 on that mindio map... it opens up a new front line, and more opportunities for fights.... something i used to LOVE doing on trinity.... stealing bases with CV's then fighting to try and keep the foothold on the beaches sort of thing...

yes that initial base capture may have been undefended..... but from then on, the fights was REALLY hard (and fun).

Yup opening up a '2nd front' leads to some of the best fights as you try to hold it, and the other sides tries to recapture it.

We tooks knits cv and port last night, led to a 2hr fight for it, wouldn't happen under that idea.

The idea of bases that lead to other bases being able to be captured blows all that away.

Also won't exactly help a country thats in the hole when the other sides know what bases the country in the hole have to goto.

those sort of lines hes put out should be GV spawns etc.... however the old AHI maps have terrible GV spawns (or virtually none at all). And thats something the newer maps DID have.....

taking and defending a base should be able to use all aspects of this game

on that note, how hard would it be to modify the current maps, to have more GV spawns?
