A few camps back, Leviathn was ranked 1337.

And wetrat smells like hot garbage.

In grade 7, I yelled out "Lauren smells like hot garbage!" on the bus while on a ski trip... she cried. I laughed.

To a certain extent that is also true.  IMO, rank has had a negative influence in game play starting when HTC had the contest a few years ago for the top 15 pilots.  It was at that point that rank became over emphasized and had a very noticable negative effect on the game play.

Agreed.

What gets measured gets done.  The ranks have nothing to do with good game play (however YOU define it).  It generates a micro game within the larger game.  People roll undefended bases in EW and MW to bolster their vechicle and bomber scores.  That should not be rewarded.  We should just count kills or kills to sortie ratio.  No way to do that without someone else... or maybe not...

I also agree the front page post drives the current rank importance which again drives poor game play.

With rank, without rank, who cares!  If there is a ranking system, it will be gamed, if there is no ranking system, how would we know who is the best bomber pilot in the game?  ....or the best GV guy?.... or the best fighter? ....or the best attacker?  lol:rolleyes:   I play for fighter rank(usually all corsair C model sorties) about every name change for at least one tour!  Why I do that is only known in a far distant planet on the outer edge of the galaxy of Dweebromeda!:aok

Get rid of the scores and getting your name in lights for landing 2 or more 'kills' and the fighting in this game would get a heck of a lot better. IMO

yea, do that...im sure people would change the way they fly then....I sure know I would:rolleyes:

if somebody is timid, they will be timid regardless...until they take the chance and try something different...and that is up to the individual.

While my views on this kind of thing aren't normally aligned with killnu, he's right, IMO. Most of those guys wouldn't change their tactics much. While I think rank may have had an effect on the way some people play, or the importance others put on stats, scoring, etc, simply removing those things would not break them from their habits at all. They'd find a new rationale, and gameplay wouldn't change at all.

While not much of a score dweeb, I did have the honor of holding the #1 statistic for kills per hour for about a week, without a single vulch. Then I upped a spit at a vulched field, and my fleeting moment of glory was but a memory.

Fly for fun, not stats. Pay attention to what you enjoy in the game, not what pisses you off about how others play. Some don't care, some do it just to piss you off. Win that fight; have fun regardless.

its a natural progression thing, imo.  ive noticed a ton of new names lately....a ton.  when i first started in AW back in the day...i was told alt=life...so i took that and ran with it...i was grabbin to 20k every stinking time...eventually...that got boring ot me...got lower and lower...till i found my happy spot.

came to AH, went from RR to FR...total noob, back to grabbin to 20k...getting feel for game controls, each plane, aim,etc...eventually realized, it was boring, nobody up there, it wasnt needed, as i became more comfortable with game, and i came down some, down some more...now after long time, i dont much care what alt im at, i do typically grab to 10k to start, but even if i am low bounced by higher cons, it dont matter, i feel im on offensive vice defensive no matter my position....it just took some time.

from what i have noticed, lots of new people...they are going to progress eventually, some faster than others...and with help with some vets giving good guidance, it will speed up the process.

imo, vets actually taking a bit of time, will help out in long haul, for everyone....not removing this and that which really dont matter much if the progression never takes place.

my .02 of course.
