I'm all for contribution and continuing membership within the community, but at what point does someones right to continue on here become a hazard to the enjoyment of others' gameplay?

I agree that line is always a tough call.

On the other hand, there's much history and knowledge shared on the boards by people who have decided they like their friends here, but aren't that interested in flying WWII aircraft any longer.  Or, perhaps they've decided to contribute by flying in the 8-person arenas and have a right to be here while they fly in player-designed arenas.

Thoughts, comments?

Most people, while quitting, still want to keep up with the game and eventually end up renewing their accounts. I had quit AH for 2 years and then chose to renew my account based on the development that had happened in between.

Were the developments things you gleamed from the boards, front page news on AH, or from other players?

Most of the people who cancel their accounts:  are they doing it for financial reasons (I can't imagine that the price of a soda per day is a hardship), or are they doing it because they are disatisfied with the product or community?

If they bail because they don't like the game or the people in it, are they really that valuable of a resource to have here with us?

Maybe there should be a small notice when you stop paying for the support of the game:

Thank you for your participation in our simulation!  Upon cancellation of your subscription, we invite you to continue to visit us and keep up on events!  However, posting comments and initiating threads upon our boards is a privilege reserved for our subscribers, so that function will be disabled until such time as you deem it appropriate to renew your subscription.  We hope to see you back in the skies soon!

Well I continued to frequent on this board as well as watermelon chat with ex squad members. Hadn't I done that, or been unable to do that I doubt I would have returned after my 2 year mandatory pause (wife threatened to divorce me) :D

The AAR posts sparked interest big enough to resub. IMO they're the best kind of marketing you can get even if they're spiced with plenty of imagination sometimes.

Ok.

I *have* been so financially squeezed that I could not allocate $15/mo to fly AH. (I just didn't want to spend the money when I could not spend the time to fly ..was goin thru college accelerated courses and it was demanding enough that AH would have interfered)

Now that I am 'out' and workin again, there are a lot of nights I just don't want to strap on a plane and go looking for trouble. I don't want the aggravation and prefer to relax an catch up on how Phan is doin, check out some of the crazy stuff in the O'club, comment on stuff that interests me, holy cow, 2 hours have gone by!

I just dont feel up to flyin every nite, every spare moment. My shooting suffers for it, my SA is moderately degraded, ..but .. when I do fly .. I enjoy it more. I fly when I am ready for the challenge, and feel like wadin into trouble.
