Video Setup Question
« on: February 15, 2000, 11:22:00 AM »
What would be the best video setup for me to use. Is the advantage of using the Hi Res download?
I have a 450 P3 w/ a Voodoo3 card, 128 mg of ram.  Thanks in advance.

Try the Creative Annihaltor 3D PRO DDR.  About $300 and it's the top card at the moment.

GeForce 256 DDR is the only way to go if you have the cash.

I run a similar system with less RAM.  I run a Celeron 366@500 with a Voodoo 3 2000 and only 64 Megs of RAM.  I run in 16 bit color (The V3 will not do 32 bit, so don't try it.) at 1024x768 and get between 25 and 50 fps, with the average being high 30's.  I reccomend you run the same settings if you have a 17" or larger monitor.  If you have a 15" monitor, you may want to try lower resolutions, depending on your preference.

Your system should do a bit better than mine, and will run Aces High just fine.  Don't worry about a GeForce unless you can afford to spend $300 for a very minimal increase in quality and speed.  The current setup you have will play Aces High just fine and is about the best peformance for the price you can get.

The Hi Res download will increase the quality of the textures in the game.  Most noticeably, the fantastic high resolution instrument panels.  Be sure to download and use the high resolution artwork, it is well worth it.

Milo, do you mean, what video set-up in AH? That's how I read your post, others seemed to read it as "What's the best video card..."

Hi-Res download is a must if you have a voodoo 3.  1024 res would be best IMO.

What a difference!!!!!

I changed to the 728x1024 and downloaded the Hi Res patch. The detail is great and even though I still got killed alot last nite the higher detail seemed to help my gunnery.  Having the more detailed shapes let me get closer before shooting.  I experienced no slow down in performance though I did have some of the stutter that was mentioned in another thread.
