War Stories
« on: November 02, 2006, 01:55:21 PM »
So i took of in my P-47-d11 heavy with fuel and a drop tank. I was looking to climb to about 20000 ft, cruise to the feild with the big dar. As I rose to 15000 I noticed  a radar dot over a undefended feild. Bombers I thought. That will be good for three kills. I leveled off and headed for that feild, climbing all the way there at about 1.5. As I neared the feild I could see the con was still higher than me, and I'm already at 20000 ft.
Well it just happened to be a 109. I dont remember when I dropped the external tank, but by the time I was close enough for icon I had about 30 minutes of fuel left so I stayed low on his six, about 2.5 low and behind. We kept climbing, and I was using wep occasionally to catch up. I was getting closer, 2, 1.5, 1, almost out of fuel now! He still doesnt know I'm here! If I could just get a little closer, I'll unload on him. Its do or die now, a couple more seconds will end this. Uhooh he sees me, I quickly level off. Whats he gonna do? He's diving. Great that gives me a chance. He's still diving. Still diving. STILL DIVING. Over 500mph now. Planes shaking, but controllable. Man this guy is nuts! Dont know if I can pull out of this one, The deck is coming up fast! Just below 10000 the 109 starts to pull up and to my relief so does my p-47. Now he tries to run, but i'm catching up fast. As soon as he starts to turn and manouver ,I hold down the trigger and spray that 109 every time its in my sights. Got him! WOW what a trip! Just enough fuel to make it back on max cruise. Thats one I wont forget too soon.

I would love to hear your story

Hehehe Best way to kill in a jug, dive in below them and come up under them.

And speaking of these types of kills I had one the other night only in a 38. Passed in opposite directions at dot range so I healed it over and dove under. Very sneaky like I came in from underneath and blasted away at 200 range and turned a pony into little bitty pieces.

At this point I headed for home as I was low on ammo from previous engagements. There I was sitting high in the cockpit all puffed up and cocky over my sneak attack. I was on downwind mentally patting myself on the back for my sneakiness skills when BAM!!!! Some other sneaky bastard in an LA7 returned the favor.

Cockiness and SA.......not a good mix!

Here's one:

Someone called out on country that field such and such was ready for grunts.  I thought, why not, and upped a c47 (can't be a good story then, can it:)).  Right away I noticed a con above me.  Great, I thought, short mission.  But I try anyway and kept treetop level and hoped he wouldn't notice me.  He paralleled me for awhile but eventually broke off. Whew - on to the field.

I keep close to the ground - no autopilot - and struggle over a rise when I hear pings. Yikes! I frantically look around for the con but no one is in sight. The pings continue until I finally deduce that I've strayed too close to an nmy vehicle base that is on a ridge a little above my alt.  I'm still taking pings but I veer off and they eventually stop.  Check damage - none. None? Incredible.

More nap of the earth and I barely make it up over a saddle in the mountains and the target field is below me.  Two cons taking off.  Well, nothing to do now but see if I can drop the troops and die valiantly.  Incredibly, one con ignores me and flies off.  Not so lucky with the other one.  He starts coming around just as I shoot up to get the alt and I drop.

I think, maybe if I make myself a tempting target he'll come after me and leave my drunks alone.  I go slow and turn towards him presenting big, fat target wing area.  He bites.  He comes in but too fast.  Some shots wiz past and as he overshoots his plane, he must have pulled too hard.  I see him start to stall and he's too low to recover.  Auger!  I get the kill!

Since I'm already at the field I land the plane. My drunks take the maproom and bam!  The field is ours.

It was a white knuckled ride all the way in with a big payoff - field and kill. I've always thought driving drunks was a chore, but I had fun that day.
