The ice caps melting is easily explainable.  Since it's fact that cooling and warming follow cycles, a warming cycle would thus follow a cooling cycle.


And just as much as warming melts ice caps, cooling would freeze them again.

And since warming comes after cooling, it's only logic that after the cooling, the ice caps would reach a maximum size and then the only thing they could do would be to melt.

I have never read anything here that has reminded me so much of the character Dr. Pangloss from Voltaire's "Candide".     We really do inhabit the best of all possible worlds.    Thanks, LS.
