Skuzzy,
Is the onboard LAN ok or do I need to use one of my precious PCI slots for my Intel Pro 100 NIC?

Pretty sure Skuzzy is going to tell you.........

Any time you use anything onboard the MotherBoard it uses precious CPU cycles to work!
It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

It'll work just fine.

Avoid on board audio, or cheap audio, that lacks a DSP (Digitial Signal Processor)

On-board Ethernet is not bad.  It all depends on which Ethernet chip it is.  Some are better than others.  Intel's are actually pretty good (they bought that technology from DEC).  Realteks suck.  Broadcom's stuff is pretty good as well.

Thanks for the replies - I will give the onboard a shot.  I think the video card cooling takes up one of my 3 PCI slots.
