I saw that some of you guys were making your own Rudder Pedals out of things that they had around the house .
 
Well, I can' resist a challenge so I gave it a try
 
I made this out of an old CH Attack 3 Joy Stick that I was no longer using since I got my Saitek X52 and wood that I had.
 
It Fly's just fine.

The Linkage wires are steel guitar strings that I got at the local music store.

Total cost of unit since I had the wood was about $15.00.

Last link no good, just says "you have logged out".

How do you keep the pedals "up"? I'm not seeing any springs underneath 'em.

Looks fairly well done! It would be kind of cool if you could somehow stick a single button at the "toe" of each pedal, and use them as brakes, but that's for another project, eh?

One of these days I'll build my own pair. I just can't do it right now.

I'm not sure what happened to the Last link it was working.
It was only a side view though.

I wish I could figure out how to post the actual pictures instead of just the links. Any thoughts?

The Attack 3 is self centering with it's own centering spring and that does the job.

As for the brake buttons.

The Attack 3 has buttons on the base and both sides (Easily accessable to your toes) which can be assigned as brake controls in AHII.

So no need for another project. It's already done.

If you have any old USB Joystick handy and some scrap wood with just a little work you can do it.

You guys making your own rudder pedals are very inventive. It's cool to see the solutions people can come up with using just a few pieces of scrap and old computer parts.

well you could have taken the handle off like i did on mine, i took about 5 mins maybe less, built the buttons assebly onto one of the pedals.

BTW if the guitar sting starts to stretch, try going to lowes and getting nylon 50 LB picture frame wire.  costs around $5  and doesnt stretch

Thanks for your reply.

I didn't take off the handle because I wanted as much X axis movement arch as I could get.

As for the buttons, I use the two buttons at the base of the Attack 3 for the right and Left Wheel Brakes, which I push with my toes. ( I Fly in my socken feet)

Giving credit where credit is due I have to say that it was your creation that inspired me to take a crack at making my own set.
 
Thanks for the Tip on the 50 Lb Nylon Picture wire I was thinking of trying 100 Lb Steel Leader wire from a fishing tackle outlet if the Guitar wire proves to be less than perfect.

Maybe our efforts as well as those in another couple of Posts I've seen will inspire others to give it a try, post their creations, and help us all with their ideas and inovations.

if you take the handle, then put the holes down a bit lower you can attach the wire to the very base of the handle its self, which this means that you wont have to make the assembly as big as i did (originally planned for the whole handle to me on, it just didnt work) you can get full use of the axis without the handle.
because there is a plastic stub that it is attached to.
