Anti-aliasing problem
« on: November 08, 2006, 07:21:45 PM »
I have an ATi x1800XT 512MB. I am running with the latest DirectX and latest Catalyst 6.10 driver. It works fine with my other games/sims. However, somewhere along the way I have developed a problem with AH. The first time I start AH after a clean boot or restart, everything is fine. If I exit the game and start it again later (even on another day), anti-aliasing is disabled. I experienced this problem with Cat 6.9 and have retained the problem with Cat 6.10. I completely uninstalled AH and reinstalled it and always completely uninstall the Catalyst driver before installing a new one.

Anyone else experience this problem? Anyone found a workaround better than restarting the PC every time I want to play?

Thanks.

Anti-aliasing problem

I did a little testing and compared notes with what I found on the web. I discovered some people are having an issue with ATi drivers where the setttings work as they should the first time they start a game, then they go back act like they have been set for defaults the next time a game is started. In the one game where my settings appeared to work, it was a trick, since the game used its own logic to turn on the settings using the default "application preference" settings that are part of this apparent bug in the Catalyst Control Panel.

The work around is that you have to change some setting (I use Catalyst AI), start the game, exit the game, then change the setting back to what I had. Toggling the setting without starting the game in between the toggle does not appear to work. So to guarantee I am getting the settings I want, I always have to follow this stupid procedure before playing any 3d games. Yuck.
