War movie overload!
« on: November 10, 2006, 09:22:59 AM »
AMC is doing a 48 hour marathon of classic war movies. It started last night at midnight EST.

Heres a list in order of whats showing starting now.
-Sink the Bismark!
-Halls of Montezuma
-To Hell and Back
-The Green Berets
-Patton
-Green Berets
-The Desert Fox: The Story of Rommel
-The Desert Rats
-The Glory Brigade
-To Hell and back
-Twelve O'Clock High
-Patton
-A Bridge Too Far
-Tora Tora Tora
-The Enemy Below

Obviously missing a few of the bigger classics. But nonetheless some good ones.

AMC does this every Vet's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, ect. They have a very good library of films, but I enjoyed AMC more when it was unedited and commercial free.

I'm really dissapointed in TCM for not showing their best warfilms this weekend. They have the rights to some great WW1 films including Hell's Angels.

This Vet's day seems to be very low key compared to past. Seems to me it used to be that every channel showed atleast some kind of war related movie.

TCM is showing war movies this weekend, or at least today. I'm watching "The Longest Day" on TCM now. Several others are coming up, "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" and "Kelly's Heroes" as well. AMC is repeating theirs often. At least two plays for several.

Hmm, my bad. They must have started at noon today. Looks like it's just 6 films, not all weekend.:(

Not to long ago AMC used to be unedited like rpm said. Alot less commercials and you'd get alot more background info on the movie being shown.

Im only 19 and remember this being the one of the only channels being unedited before prime time.

I know TCM is like this but I remember those things always being my main complaints about AMC edited to death and too damn many commercials

One of the things my son and I always found amuising was the way AMC edited "on Golden Pond"

they left "SOB" in but edited out "BS"

Mind boggling

AMC abandoned unedited, commercial free programming in 1998. Before that it was just like TCM. They started with commercials between the movies for about 6 months, then went to their current programming.:(
