Just turn off already!
« on: November 17, 2006, 01:32:48 AM »
(For the record, I've got "Turn off computer" selected in the place where it asks you what action you want to occur when you press the power button.)

Anybody know what I have to change to get XP to just shut off? Before I got this SATA HD, my comp just powered off when the Shut Down was issued or the power button was pressed. Now the power button does nothing (unless you hold it in, of course) and it goes to the "It is now safe to turn off your computer" screen, where I have to hold down the power button to kill it. Just pressing it doesn't work.

Wouldn't mind editing the registry or anything. Just wanna know what causes this.

Sounds like you have a non ACPI HAL loaded.

You can change it to an ACPI HAL but it is not recommended by Uncle Bill.
