Computer Upgrade Question
« on: November 26, 2006, 11:24:35 PM »
I have a Sony Desktop thats about 8 months old - but its a single 3.2 Ghz Pent with 1 GB ram - and a x128mb Radeon card

I'd like to explore purchasing a combo mobo/proc with dual core - and a better vid card - maybe go back to nVidia too

Am I gonna have trouble finding something to fit the case? Or is it proprietary?
Help?

You're probably better off posting this in the Hardware/Software forum.

As for it being a Sony, I'd guess it would be proprietary.

If the chipset is ready for it then it sould be possible to upgrade to a dual core CPU, and the GPU prolly uses the standard connector.

I had a Sony Viao desktop a couple of years ago and once you removed all the fancy plastic covers it seemed like a standard case and could probably accept an aftermarket MB.   You should check out the wattage on the power supply though, it may not be big enough.  My sony came with a 350 watt power supply (the power supply died) It came with 1 60GB HD, 1gig ram and a DVD player, I added a bigger video card, an 80GB HD, another gig of ram, and a RW Cdrom. i think thats what killed the power supply.   I just started over with a new case and 500 watt power supply and new MB/processor and swapped everything else to the new case.
