The pilot could look down, just like you have to do now.

I guess you missed the part where I said that I don't have an extra button or switch on which I can program the "look down" function.  And, it's kind of tough to fumble around for the right keys on the keypad to check my airspeed during a fight.

So many wanna-be-smart arses in this community.

Like it or not, it's my opinion that the current setup is a flaw.  And, in my opinion, HTC ought to consider fixing it.  Therefore, I opened this thread to present the idea to HTC.  HTC hasn't deleted the thread; so, I'm going to guess they're at least listening w/out being a smart arse about it.

If you lack an extra button or switch, just use the default keyboard mapping for changing the head position, or using mouselook, or panning down, or maybe even changing game settings, or not flying purely off your instruments?

I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but there are numerous planes where all of the guages aren't visible all the time in the default head positions. Maybe a little flexibility here is a good thing?

I hear what you're gettin' at, hubs.  :)

Off the top of my head, though, I don't remember one aircraft that has a critical gauge, like the airspeed indicator, chopped in half.

Some have suggested changing the screen resolution, but that creates other problems (ie: far more difficult to see other aircraft because they're too small, bad FR's, etc.).

I honestly don't see why everyone is so quick to jump in HT's corner on this one.  lol.  For all we know, HT may have looked at this thread, checked the F4U cockpit and said, "oOPs...we screwed up!  Let's get it fixed in the first patch."

Apparently I'm a little more flexible with regards to guages than HT is. ;)

HTC,
Thanks for the quick patch to fix the gauges.  Looks great.

By the way, the movable trim tabs are cool.  I also like the trim setting indicators on the F4U's dash, as well.

Should be a fun holiday weekend ahead in our new Hogs.

I didn't take the time to read every post... so if it's been covered then sorry...
but try this-

press the look down key and look forward key at the same time (0 and 8 i believe)

good luck...

HTC fixed the flaw with the F4U cockpit with patch 2.  Thanks.
