Strange problem launching AH
« on: November 07, 2000, 08:25:00 PM »
I just got the new Kensington Expert Mouse Pro with the 6 quicklaunch buttons on the top.  They allow you to launch any application with the touch of a button by just pointing to the .EXE in the program settings.

The problem is, everytime I try and launch AH from the quicklaunch button, I get an error that Aceshigh.exe has caused an error in Aceshigh.exe and will now close.

I have noticed this problem too while using the program ClickSave.  With that program you can explore your entire computer using a popup menu.  If I try to launch AH using that method I get the same error.

What's even more strange is I can successfully launch it from that same popup menu if I make a shortcut to the .EXE in the same directory.  Unfortunately, pointing to the shortcut doesn't work while using the Quicklaunch button of the Trackball.

Currently, I have a shortcut to AH located in the Creative SBLive! quicklaunch menu bar.  Launching AH works fine from there.

Why will AH launch in some situations and not others?  All my other programs launch fine from the Trackball buttons.

Not a big deal, but I thought it would be cool to be able to run AH with a touch of a button.  For some reason it just won't launch.

I would think it has something to do with pointing the program to a "home" directory before you launch the exe.

Find your regular AH shortcut and right-click on it and choose properties.  Note what is in the "Start in:" dialog box, and be sure that is also present in the poperties of this mouse shortcut you are using.

The way the mouse program works is you select which button you want to program and then it comes up with a dialog that lets you browse to any executable.  It includes the entire path name.  I've tried pointing it to the .exe itself and to shortcuts.

The problem can't be with the mouse software because it works with every other program that I have tried it with.  AH is the only one that crashes when trying to launch from the mouse.  And as I said above, this happens not just with the mouse, but with another program(ClickSave).  There is something about the AH executable itself that doesn't respond well to certain run commands.
