CTD / Reboot
« on: November 21, 2006, 03:54:23 PM »
Just logged into AH to fly, at the arena selection screen it froze up, and my computer rebooted.

Logged into AH again, got into the arena, clicked to a field and was suddenly crashed to desktop.

No warning, just suddenly AH was gone.

Also before reinstall, copy your settings folder some place. Then make sure the Aces High II folder is completly empty.

Test with out restoring anything first from fresh install.

shoot.

Already done reinstalled and copied over my saved files.

I always delete the HTC folder when I reinstall.

Gonna try to jump online in a few min, gota reboot and jump on dial-up.

If I keep getting CTD's I will reinstall AH and not copy anything over.

BTW, pingplotter on my cable, and dial-up to 206.16.60.38 show's some pretty high ping's in Dallas.  Spiking from my normal (50 on cable, 150 on dial up) to pretty high  (as high as 550ms on cable).

Something going on in Dallas?

I ran the ping from two diff. dial up #'s.  One that goes pretty much from Oklahoma to Dallas, and one that routes to Chi town.

All showing pretty high spikes once they get to Dallas.  Only occasional spikes mind you.

Ok, totally fresh install.

Didn't copy over a thing from my backup.

Clicked to go to the arena I wanted, Instant CTD.

Getting REALLY worried I won't be able to fly now.

(edit: loads the map, and while it's loading the Cached shapes it CTD's)

(edit edit: when it hit's Ground Detail, it crashes)

ok, 4th install seems to have maybe worked.

I first went offline (no issues, worked fine) then online and got my cache update.

Was able to make it into an arena.

(got my fingers crossed)

ok... update  (a very frustrated one)

Managed to get online.

Logged into multiple arena's.

Decided all was good, so I jupped off the wireless connection, rebooted, logged into dial up, and here's what happened.

THIS time I opened the LOBBY upon getting online to look for a squaddie.

NOW the CTD is back.

Online, Offline, instant CTD.

SO much for my being able to fly today durn it.

(edit) Here's an interesting tidbit.  When I try to delete the shortcut to AH, my system locks up.  ctrl/alt/delete doesn't show anything running.  Eventually it shows that EXPLORER is not responding, end task it, and I am unlocked.

WHAT did y'all do to AH?

Ok, i'm back up and running.

DO NOT CLICK ON LOBBY!  (at least for me)

IF I click lobby, I CTD every time I try to launch AH as it's loading the Cached shapes.

Here is a puzzler.

On my last re-install, I added one folder at a time from my backups to my fresh install, then logged online after each one.

I noticed that my System ram was maxed out (I have 512, showed 510 used) until I added my backup Settings folder.  After I copied that over, it now show's my System Ram as less than 1/2 that (from 210 - 290 depending).

Isn't that odd?

Not really, as use of system RAM depends on your vid settings, optimize terrain/objects, preloading, displaying skins etc etc....

Thing is, all those settings were 'bout (if not exactly) the same before I added my SETTINGS folder.  Same texture size, same options checked in video setup.

I might delete my video cfg file and see what happens.
