Why do some spitfires and hurricanes shut down when you dive it ticks me off. The engines just quit. So I just thought I'd throw that out there!:noid

the spit1 and hurri 1 both have carbureted engines, so any negative G's applied/forced ( ie....push forward on the stick) past a certian point will result in fuel being stopped flowing...........

the other spits/hurris have fuel injection


also if held there to long of a time, your engine may not restart without having to hit the "E" key again..........

Early Merlins didn't have carburetor floats designed for negative G or inverted flight... Hence, the engine stops running when you apply negative G (push over) or unloaded inverted flight. This was largely fixed on later engines via a modified carburetor with Miss Shilling's orifice (holes in the diaphram across the float chambers).

You will not see this problem with the later Spitfire Mk.V or the Hurricane Mk.IIC. Adjust your flying style as required...
