I may have some issues closer to home but this last jump (25) is reporting massive swings on every ping plot I do. Is it a known issue or a non issue?

dllsbbrj01-ae0.rd.dl.cox.net   68.1.0.142

and

mdf1-bi8k-2-eth-2-2.dal1.attens.net   63.241.192.218

are my two worst hops in the DFW area...

been going on about a month now...

I've had more discos, lost UDP,  and the "black box" on log-in, ect....for some reason. I've talked to my isp and had tech support out... all they want to do is look at my cables, and measure signal to my modem...after that - all bets are off. One dude supposedly made a report of the ip address of the first node... never heard anything back from it, nor any improvement.

whats funny is your ping to New York is is about the same time my ping takes for about 275 miles.

Tilte, I cannot read the page you lonked to, but problems on the last hop are indicative of a problem on the return path.  The paths to and from your computer will be different and Ping Plot, nor traceroute will not show what the return path is.

I have to run that from our end to find where the actual issue may lie, but I need an IP address close to your computer.

Click on the link then clickdown load to get it as a jpg

first IP is my PC's generic so can you take the 2nd?

217.41.220.146

I assume this is BT's Reading hub which is the next jump after my router.

Ok Tilt, the trace back to tjat IP address, from the server, is not pretty.

Whne it hits the gateway between AT&T and BT, it timesout.  Continuing on there is some tyep of router flap going on near the IP address you provided.

My best guess is a bad route table entry in either AT&T or in BT's router(s).  Could be a combination of both.  Does not appear to be a router overload, just something programmatic with the routers involved.

I would take the PingPlot you have , save it as text, then send it to BT while notifying them there is a problem with the gateway between them and AT&T.

I cannot post the trace results as I am at home and simply do not have the ability to do the remote cut and paste and MS's brain dead telnet utility will not expland to allow me to get a screen shot.

Can you hit "print screen" and then paste it in say "paint" program to save it ?

Sure Tilt, use whatever information you need.

A "router flap" occurs when a router acts wonky.  Usually associated with something causing the router to get into a tight loop in its OS.  Normally, these things are found and cured pretty quickly, but on occasion, the ISP is just not aware of the problem until someone (a client) points it out to them.

airspro, I am doing this work from home as the office has been closed for the holidays.  I have no WEB space to post any images from home.
