White Outline on F4Us
« on: November 23, 2006, 08:33:33 AM »
Still getting a white outline on the F4U.  The white outline is over the gray shape of the F4U.  After a short time...or when I get closer a skin appears and the white outline and gray shape are gone.

I'm not sure if this is related but I noticed since the new patch (any version) when I shoot a component off a plane there is still an outline around the missing part. I've noticed this especially on the F4u's, and maybe only the F4u's. For example, I shoot the left wing off, but still see the outline and maybe the flap or aileron hanging in open space where the wing used to be.

Not a bug per-se -

To keep frame rates up as the aircraft get further away from you the number of polys is reduced. (Levels Of Detail - LOD)
To maintain a smooth outline a 'mask' of sorts is used.

What you are seeing is the smoothing mask.
Can only be changed in the model.

Same thing is evident in the Spits black outine.

yeah its is a "bug" cos this base colour should at least match the color of the plane.

i understand its a "feature" to reduce poly's but no other planes suffer from this.
