Video Card Problem - Help !!! :)
« on: November 26, 2006, 04:12:23 AM »
Had ATI 9800Pro working fine for last 3 years.

Last night I've put in Palit X800GTO (http://www.palit.com.tw/en/products/ati_agp_X800GTO.html).

In windows it seems to work fine, however 3d games have lots of artifacts. Tried it only on Total War games, Rome and MTW2 demo both were inreadable ( scattered graphics etc).

I set the bios ( Asus board to AGP x8, voltage was set to 1.6v for agp). That's about as much knowledge as i have :(

Running benchmarking software (postmark or something like that) and gain in 3d category over 9800pro was abotu 3% !!! Something is hosed. Any ideas ?

Thanks

fd

Over heating.... I'm guessing your using a (store bought computer) they come with 250-280w psu TEH SUK ati 800's need atleast 350w to run decent.

If you you cant get new PSU atm goto local computer store take side of case off add a little 80mm or 120mm near vid card till you can.

Try this and let us know:

Right click on desktop. Properties > Settings > Advanced > 3D, then click on Compatibility at the bottom.

Disable both "Support DXT texture formats" and "Alternate pixel center."

Could be a driver problem also. Leftovers from the previous card installation.

But more likely it's a defective card, it should be returned to the dealership for testing.

ATI drivers overwrite (no need to delete old ones) and the same driver works for both old and new cards.

http://elliottback.com/wp/archives/2006/11/18/medieval-total-war-2-text-corruption-graphics-bug/

that fixed it. Weird.... not sure about performance, seems that it isn't quite the performance increase one could expect..
