Change Drivers!!!

Hi! I have now purchased a ATI 1950 video card and getting ready for cross-fire. I am currently using the Omega DRivers 4.12's. I admitt that these drivers work great! The screen is very stable and I am to the max.
I havn't installed the card yet but should I change the drivers for the the card! I know that the CCC panel uses more memory and the net.
I been reading that the latest drivers should be installed!! But I hate to lose anything I gained with the 4.12's...
Hopefully someone can guide me on this!

Opps! Yes, new mobo will be ordered, but for now I would like to use the new card!

Well, do a system restore and then uninstall your 4.12's and install the latest drivers for your new card.  See how they run.  If everything is working, create another restore point, and then you can try your 4.12's again  (assuming they are compatable)using the rollback driver option in the device manager.  I have found that 1.) always create a restore point before such an upgrade.  2) completely uninstall old drivers.  3) Different drivers work better for different cards.  And it aint necessarily the latest drivers.  Hope this helps a bit, but usually each individuals situation is different and a bit of trial and error is necessary to find something that works for you.  Good Luck

Thank you for the advice on the restore point. I would have normally un-installed abd installed again. The new card should be here this week and giving it a try. I have the memory peaked at 2G of extreme corsair.
I am going to let a tech install the new mobo.,..

Question: I f I used the restore point then I wont have to use the unistall?

First, there are no latest Omega drivers. The file he distributed to mirrors is not complete and can't be opened. You can use try the latest ATI drivers. This is the last set of drivers with only the simple control panel available. All future drivers will use the CCC only.

Only the control panel needs to be deleted. You can simply overwrite ATI drivers without deleting them, unlike Nvidea drivers.

If you don't like the new driver, delete control panel and reinstall your omega driver, since you should still have the download somewhere. You don't need to do a system restore.

Well, the restore should only be used as a last resort.  The object is to have a 'i wish i hadnt done that' bail-out if you get going down the wrong path.  But, generally, in my experience, always completely uninstall old drivers and do a fresh install of the new ones.  Now once you have installed your new drivers and your new card and its working , if you decide to try the 4.12's and they dont work, I believe you can use the 'roll back driver' button in the devicemanager to recover your fresh install of the new cards drivers  without having to do an uninstall and a re-install.  But, that may be tempting fate.  It really eliminates alot of unknowns to simply take the time to uninstall and reinstall fresh.
