Reality vs Sim

Hello,

I'm very happy with the new corsair art and cockpits. Corsairs have been my fav for a long time...   I was recently able to hop in the cockpit of some fighters and see the sights.  One of them was a XF4u4.  And I am very happy to see the new art was exactly how it looked in there. It feels like your in an aircraft now. They even got the wheel brakes, the throttle, and other things correct.

Now in the real thing, when you look ahead, you are looking at the gunsight. Its very close to your head. Pretty much all you see.  And the throttle and other various things to your left and right are pretty much hidden by the curve of the fusilage. I had to move to the right to look down a little to see the throttle.   The P-47D is like this too.  All you can really see with a forward view is the big gunsight.

Now in the game, everything is sort of squished into the view at the sides. and the gunsight seems far off.  I guess what I am getting at is what would be a realistic view would be a gunsight filling 70% of your monitor.  And the throttle and most other guages would be hidden. But you cannot fit everything you need to fly into this view.  So its a trade off.

What I noticed about this real view, that it was much easier to aim. With the gunsight right in front of your face looking very large.  I know you can zoom in to the sight, but its not the same as having a normal view with  a great view of the sight and a normal view of your front.   Its all a trade off, but I guess I would vote for a bigger gunsight normal view over being able to see some guages and the throttle.  Or maybe a flight cockpit view, then a combat cockpit view with the big gunsight.  There would be no need to zoom in then.  Zooming shinks your forward view to nothing but the sight.

I guess the trade is good close gunsight, only 1 or 2 guages.  Or, good overall cockpit, but small gunsight.

Just some observations really.   I am very happy with the new cockpits, it feels like your actually in something now.     Thanks HTC!

Someone posted a film about a year ago... in the film he was pulled back as far as possible, somone commented on this and he said that it gave him better SA..

Ever since then, I have always pulled my view as far back as possable, and he was right about it increaseing you SA, It just forces you to become a better shot...

I am near sighted also

i usually just use the defualt view and maybe raise it up  a lil for luft and russian stuff.. zoom in occationally just to get a better idea of the angle but hop back to default once i do.. the site i use is too small i think if i zoomed all the way out it might disappear lol..

your monitor infront of you is only small, so the FOV is small also.... the sim has to account for this. In real life, a very small movement of your eyes and you can look anywhere in a instant. in the game you cannot

You can however move your head forward has Hitech said and make it more realistic if you wish.
