Don't Fire 5.56mm in .223 Cal.

Do you all know not to fire 5.56 mm in .223 caliber barrels?  I was surprised to read this here:

http://www.combatsimulations.com/ar15/

On left side, scroll menu to 223 vs. 5.56mm

I don't have either, but was reading about them after a friend bought a .223 AR-15.  He hasn't fired it yet, so I sent him this to warn him.

Have you had any experience with this issue?  Seems as if it never should have been an issue.  Supposedly okay to fire .223 in 5.56mm barrels but not vice versa.

Yup. Difference in taper makes the 5.56N dangerous to fire from .223 civilian rifles. Same goes for 7.62N and .308 Winchester, but not to the same degree of danger.

LOL! No, I meant it is not recommended to fire 7.62 mm NATO round from a civilian rifle chambered for the .308 Winchester round.

The 5.56mm NATO was deliberately designed so it couldn't (shouldn't) be used in .223 rifles, but still allow the military guns to accept the .223.
