To the AvA Staff -Just a Thought

The numbers lately in the AvA arena are dismal, come to think of it they always have been.

With the new advancement's of the other arena's tankers are left out in the dark. Now i know what your gonna think there aren't many tankers, surely not enough to stock an arena, but you would be wrong in that thinking.

There are a lot of people who like to do nothing but GV fight and capture GV bases 1 at a time, so i throw this idea to you now like a life preserver so the AvA doesn't perish!

In the last days of the CT the numbers were the same. The name gets changed and there are 75 people in the new AvA on a tuesday night, same arena new name.

The  Training Staff made a map for the Training Room.

Why not make a map in grand HiTechCreations fashion just for GV's?

Could call the arena" Ground Vehicle Arena "

The number of Tankers that would be in there is tremendous, not to mention large scale battles for 1 base at a time.

It is just an idea though, i miss the days of Thursday night Squad nights in AH-1 when the numbers were 120+ on a thursday night, the competition was out of this world and the FUN METER blew up 30 Mins. into the Evening.I think those times can be had again in that Arena only dressed as a Tank with a BIG GUN!

It would also force a lot of Il-2's with nothing better to do to get in a fighter with the rest of them.

Kantorri's Winter and Summer FIN - RUS maps were about the closest I have run across in the AH Terrain layouts.
They didn't have many high mountain terrains, distances were fairly short between spawns and they had lots of well placed Forrests & structures to fight from behind.

These were probibaly some of the BEST terrain maps ever made for AH. They took in mind both the flyers and the GV drivers and made for some of the best fights I have ever been involved in.

I really like Sweet's Idea - would like to see this maybe tried for one night - might be fun. Though I don't think it will pull in enough at first without leaving a place for the flyers. Though a GV arena might be an interesting thing in the future when we get more vehicles in the roster.

IMO, some of the best features for a GV Map..............

TERRAIN:
1.  Mix of low rolling hills with open flat spots. Here you can go hull down to fight or make fast runs across the open to new fireing spots.

2.  Also a mix of small forests with roads and the low types of grass and single trees as on the current MA maps.

3. Fighting structures (demolished houses, etc.) scattered about as on Kantorri's maps.

STRUCTURES:
1.  Towns pretty much as is.

2.  Factories, Fuel Depots, Capitals, etc. pretty much as is.

AIRFIELDS:
1.  Keep the ones at the front, dirt type fields (as in kantorri's map) with only fighter and attack type planes available.

2.  Place the slight larger fields way back from the front lines and base the Medium and (if) larger bombers only there to give the GV players a chance.

Have always wanted to start a vehicle squad - we have a basic mix of vehicles to make it possible now with a little support of the AvA Staff - with more vehicles in the Roster it could become even a larger part of AH.

Lets hope so......

BTY Sweet....I really miss the Thursday Night squad nights as well. Don't know why everyone left all of a sudden. Would like to see the AvA make a comeback.

Being a fan of the ground war in AH Im am in no way opposed to settting a date to try something. I would like to see it planned out rather well and have it on a night where it doesnt interfere with anything some one has planned. I know with the low numbers right now thats a weak point. If you or Sweetcheeks wants to get with me Ill back it and get it run some time soon. I like the idea very much and I think it can be done. Im sure I can round up a handful of willing tankers.

Actually, I (and I am sure others) are looking for something on a REGULAR basis that will attract the GV players, as well as the regular pilots, to the AvA all the time.

The one night "Event" type thing is fun in many cases and has it's place but I am sure you are like me as we would like to see players back in the AvA on a regular basis and even to the point of the big squads coming back on Thursday night.

Many of the terrains used in the AvA are well suitable to the GV'ers. All we ask is that you keep us in mind when you make up the weekly scenario's. The one coming up is a great examples.

ok, so lets make it a REGULAR thing. "Heavy Metal Mondays" 9 P.M. EST . The trick is to get the word out to the dedicated GV'ers and get it set up right from the get go or it will be another passing fad like "Fighter Town" or "Rolling Plane Sets".

The Sherman, baby. The intro of it would facilitate so many historical battles it ain't funny. Of course whenever the Sherman is brought up German armor fans suddenly forget historical settings and such and remind us all theat the PzKmfk Mk XXXV hover ground assault armored battleship that mounted the 3 500 mm railguns (that was once drawn by a german scientist daydreaming and the drawing was recovered when the allies came in, tereby halting it's possible production) was a much better tank. :D

Great, if Arlo's gonna be in the AVA again, we need to institute a "no singing" rule.:D

Well....okay.....

singing... but in limited quantities, and only in key, or off key, or at least warbbling understandably

Or at the very least, in some semblance of a gutteral umberance of some form of human type rythmic noise!

I think I resemble that.

Honestly, after seeing the new F4U and the awesome pacmap, I'm in high gear to come back. Of course, I didn't leave disgruntled to begin with. Ex's have ways of interrupting even the most passionate hobbies (even when they're really not expensive or impractical). Gettin' better now, though. And living within daily driving distance of HT's office is kinda neat.

Jester, sorry i havn't responded sooner i have just moved and they won't have my internet up till the 21st(had to hit the library).I used to sponsor an event in the DA called " Tank Klubb" so getting folks to come into a all GV battle in the AvA should not be a problem, i would say i can get maybe 20 + people in there. We used to get 30+ in the DA for Tank klubb every weds. night at 10 P.M.

I just figured since the AvA was sitting dormant we could get some better use out of it, and i am grateful you feel the same way.

I will get back to you when my system is back up on line.

I am in the process of making a smaller version map for H2H, trying to devise a way to keep the base taker bunch from ruining a good tank battle.
