spitIX vs Ki-84
« on: November 23, 2006, 09:04:11 PM »
I dusted of the "barbiefire" {pink skinned spitIX} for a couple of hops earlier today. This was one of a few fun fights with the same ki-84 driver. We went round 2 or 3 times with no real victor (this one ended with a hill in the wrong place) I picked him he picked me and the other 3 were more or less draws....notice niether of us is worried about a HO on the merge....

I put it up here as a training clip to show the "mid game" transition from angles to E often nessessary vs a good adversary. The Ki is a very tough adversary for a spit if it can get its flaps out in a position where its controlling the fight. So a couple times you see me use the "under" to then float over the Ki and keep the perch...obviously if you misjudge things your a hanging curveball....but the alternative here was to get wrapped up in a fight the spitty wasnt going to win.

Once you get the merge down reasonably well the decisions you make in the early "midgame" will go along way to determining the outcome.

Ones again Shavkovski displays how he makes intertvines color of different neuaeuances such as red and orange to make yet another masters piece. Bravo I say. Nobodys has yet to conquer the big screens like Shavkosvki in the many way that he pictures the essence of true Summer sky.

this is so true. i watched the film before reading the post and i'm thinking to myself, gee half the time i try that, i get reamed with cannon.

it takes confidence to maintain the perch, as you called it, when you have only a slight E advantage over your opponent. if I, or any other pilot, could be 100% assured of not becoming a hanging curveball in that circumstance, it would make us a 200% better pilot. it seems that you've pretty well mastered it. well done snaphook nice film.

thank you for putting this up snaphook, gives a rookie like myself good examples  of what I should be doing to maintain my E on the merge, and to be more agressive to get the opponent to play my game.

glad it helped a bit....

The best thing you can do is pick 1 or 2 planes to focus on and spend some time in the TA. I love the barbie but find other planes like the F4U to be much more adaptable to the "realities" of the MA. As you learn a given plane you get more and more comfortable with it over time.

as demonstrated, the fine line between rope and 'curveball' is so thin as to almost be invisible! thats a great example snap.

the main indicator of you practiced skill here, imo, is the way you avoid the easy shot and fly hard up the rope.

to some it mght look like 'HEY now, but if that ki84 was me i wouldnt miss'.  thats not true because i know the pilot concerned is a good shot, and practiced in ki84.  the main thing is humble was forcing him to either break off, or go for a difficult stalling shot.

great film.
