Wonder if I could hookup my PC to a 50" Hitachi widescreen HDTV. My 7900 GT card has a adapter for Component cables output and would like to know if anyone else has tried to run a large projection TV like this?

For grins I did that with my 42" LCD 1080p display.  It's nice and big - but AH lack of real widescreen support meant that being without the trackIR was a PITA, and sitting far enough from the screen made it hard to see small details.

And to be honest, I thought a 30" display at higher resolution (3200 x1200 instead of 1920x1080) and closer is much nicer, and works better.

Still, worth playing with if you've got the time and inclination.  Maybe you like it more than I did.

I used to use a 50" Panny at 8' and it was great.  My 58" at 8' is even better.:D At 1920 x 1080p the instruments are crystal clear.   I connect via DVI-->HDMI. Too bad we can't use the full widescreen res without losing vertical view.. I use 1280 x 1024 in game.  At 8' away and 4:3 res a 42" would be too small.  I tried it on my 42" Sony in Guam.  Pics in link about mid-page.

Is your HDTV a plasma screen?  If yes...

NO.

Check if you have a DVI connection on your DLP or LCD type tv

Actually,
Jazz1 plays AH on a 50" plazma and it works great connected via VGA.  He ordered a DVI-->HDMI cable to try the digital connection.  There is still danger of burn-in with plazma but they are getting a lot bettter.  Plazmas and Flat screen LCD's don't have overscan problems.  I have a 42" Sony and 50" Panny Rear projection LCD that work fine with the VGA connection.  Both of those and my 58" DLP reqire a custom resolution within a resolution to correct overscan so the desktop will be totally visible using DVI or HDMI.  My DLP will only do 1280x1024 via VGA so I use 1856x1040 within 1920x1080p via HDMI.  I have found the Nvidia drivers much better for achieving this than the ATI.  I wish I had gone Nvidia on my new rig in my Sig.
