You remember correctly.  In order for Pizza aka. AKDesert to come back, someone would have to build it from scratch.

I have a great deal of respect for the person(s?) who created that map, and I salute their efforts. But I logged off every time the instant I saw it was up. The first few times I flew on that map, no matter how I adjusted my settings, my eyes burned for hours. And it was just plain ugly, at least to me, I found it hideous.

I liked the Pizza map, not having anything to do with all the crying about hordes and undefended bases, but because it enabled alot of good sized GV fights at the GV bases on the edges.  
Often it would end up with 20 or 30 GVs fighting each other with some AC coming in to help either side.  A good GV battle now and then was really fun.  That doesn't seem to happen much anymore.

so true about GVs man, the canyon setup made the GV fights intense and any jabos that wanted to bomb GVs had to contend with the canoyon walls if they wanted to get soem easy kills.

Pizza was one of the best for one reason.....

Long deep canyons.  

Deadly dogfights until the end down there in the bottom of the barrel.

Fighting between walls and ground  near stall.

No chance to escape. Kill or die.

That was pizza, the canyon fights.

I think you would need the actual files from the terrain editor (just a guess)

But you would think HTC would still have those.

I can't remember who, but somebody mentioned that the main problem with pizza is that we can't use the desert tiles set in the arena's anymore. If it was to come back, It would probably be with the same terrain tiles that we have now.
